Targeted twice in season opener Ebron hauled in one of his two targets for 19 yards in Sunday's 23-16 win over the Bills.
Impact Both Ebron and rookie Pat Freiermuth started at tight end in Sunday's season opener, and both players hauled in one reception in the comeback win. While the veteran will likely have to compete for targets in 2021, it appears as though both tight ends will have roles in Pittsburgh's offense to begin the year.

Leads Steelers in receiving yards Ebron brought in four of his six targets for 59 yards in Saturday's 26-20 preseason win over the Lions.
Impact Ebron had a team-high 59 receiving yards while playing 41 percent of the offensive snaps Saturday, but he dropped a 20-yard target on third down during the team's first drive of the game. He played more snaps than rookie tight end Pat Freiermuth, but Freiermuth racked up two touchdowns in the win. Across his two preseason appearances, Ebron has totaled five receptions for 64 yards.

Steelers QB Roethlisberger shines in preseason debut

Hauls in lone target Ebron brought in his only target for five yards in Thursday's 24-16 preseason win over the Eagles.
Impact Ebron was held out of last week's Hall of Fame Game due to an elbow injury, but he returned to practice Monday and was on the field for 17 percent of the Steelers' offensive snaps in Thursday's exhibition game. He was outpaced by rookie Pat Freiermuth, who was on the field for 39 percent of the team's offensive snaps, and the pair of tight ends should continue to compete for playing time during the preseason.

Participates in practice Ebron (elbow) participated in Monday's practice, Chris Adamski of the Pittsburgh Tribune-Review reports.
Impact Ebron left practice in late July due to a minor elbow injury, and he didn't take the field in the Hall of Fame Game against the Cowboys. It's not yet clear how the tight end could be used in Thursday's preseason game against the Eagles, but his brief absence earlier in camp shouldn't impact his Week 1 availability.
AUGUST 11, 2021 • ROTOWIRE
Absent from preseason opener Ebron (elbow) didn't play in Thursday's Hall of Fame Game against the Cowboys.
Impact Ebron left practice early last week due to what's considered a minor elbow injury, and he was unable to take the field in Thursday's preseason opener. His next chance to suit up will be Aug. 12 against the Eagles, but it's not yet clear whether he'll be able to do so.
AUGUST 6, 2021 • ROTOWIRE
Leaves practice field early Ebron (elbow) departed Wednesday's practice early due to what sounds like a minor injury, Teresa Varley of the Steelers' official site reports.
Impact Ebron is dealing with what's been labeled as elbow discomfort, and coach Mike Tomlin said he's optimistic the tight end won't miss much time. Barring any additional developments, the most noteworthy outcome of Ebron missing a small amount of practices would be rookie Pat Freiermuth having an opportunity to handle more reps.

Faces increased competition Ebron faces increased competition for targets this season after the Steelers selected Pat Freiermuth with the 55th overall pick in the 2021 NFL Draft, Ed Bouchette of The Athletic...
Impact Ebron hauled in 31 passes for 375 yards during his final season with the Colts in 2019, his lowest marks since his rookie year in 2014. However, he established himself as the primary tight end in Pittsburgh last season and hauled in 56 of his 91 targets for 558 yards and five touchdowns. The Steelers selected Freiermuth in the second round of the draft after Vance McDonald retired in January. Ebron likely will handle most of the pass-catching duties while Freiermuth serves as the No. 2 tight end to begin the 2021 campaign, but the rookie could compete for targets if Ebron gets off to a slow start.

Tests positive for COVID-19 Ebron tested positive for COVID-19 on Monday, Gerry Dulac of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette reports.
Impact Ebron previously sat out the Steelers' Week 17 loss to the Browns following his placement on the reserve/COVID-19 list, which came after he was deemed a close contact of an infected person. He cleared all health-related protocols ahead of last weekend's loss to Cleveland in the wild-card round, turning in a productive outing with seven receptions for 62 yards and a touchdown on 11 targets. Though the Steelers' season has now come to an end, Ebron's positive test resulted in the team shutting down its facility. Ebron will have to complete a quarantine period before he's allowed to resume working out with the team, but assuming he experiences no complications in his recovery, he should be ready to go by the end of the month.
