Joins Kansas City's practice squad The Chiefs signed McGuire to their practice squad Tuesday, Ian Rapoport of NFL Network reports.

Impact McGuire will provide depth to the Chiefs' running back group after Clyde Edwards-Helaire (ankle) was placed on injured reserve. The 27-year-old has spent time on Kansas City's practice squad the last two seasons, so he should have some familiarity with the system.

The 27-year-old is competing for a depth spot in Kansas City's backfield, and missing practice time could hurt his chances of sticking on the regular-season roster.

As a result, McGuire could get an immediate opportunity after signing with the practice squad just a few days ago. DeAndre Washington and Patrick Laird still figure to handle a bulk of the work. McGuire last played in 2018, when he suited up for the Jets and posted 276 yards and three touchdowns on 92 carries (3.0 yards per carry) and 193 yards and a score on 19 receptions.

Impact McGuire last suited up with the Cowboys' practice squad this season, but he's found a new home in which to attempt to break back into the league. The 26-year-old spent two seasons with the Jets in 2017 and 2018, rushing for 591 yards and four touchdowns on 180 rushing attempts over that span.
