INJURIES
Week 1 start
Apple will start at corner in place of the injured Trae Waynes (hamstring) in Week 1 against the Vikings, Paul Dehner Jr. of The Athletic reports.
Impact
It's interesting to see Apple get the nod ahead of Darius Phillips and Mike Hilton, though Hilton is specifically tasked to be a slot corner.

Heads to Cincinnati
Apple signed with the Bengals on Tuesday, Mike Garafolo of NFL Network reports.
Impact
Apple dealt with ankle, foot and hamstring injuries, and he played in just two games before being cut by the Panthers in late October. The 2016 10th overall pick will head to his fourth team in four years hoping for a fresh start. In his last full season in 2019, Apple registered 58 tackles, four pass breakups and a forced fumble over 15 games with the Saints. He'll have an opportunity to play a significant role in Cincinnati's defense next year alongside fellow corners Chidobe Awuzie and Trae Waynes (pectoral).

Cut loose by Panthers
The Panthers released Apple (hamstring) on Tuesday, Myles Simmons of the team's official site reports.
Impact
Apple hasn't been able to stay healthy, battling ankle and hamstring injuries this year. He's suited up in just two games and totaled 28 defensive snaps, and after leaving Tuesday's practice early to receive treatment on his hamstring, the Panthers decided to cut him loose. The 2016 first-round pick will now focus on getting healthy as he searches for his fourth NFL team in five years.

Active as expected
Apple (hamstring) will play in Sunday's game against the Saints, Myles Simmons of the team's official site reports.
Impact
It was reported earlier Sunday that Apple was expected to suit up, so this news isn't surprising. Apple will make just his second appearance of the season, as lower-body injuries have cost him most of his season. Expect the Ohio State product to have a role in dime packages Sunday, especially considering starter Rasul Douglas landed on the reserve/COVID-19 list this week.

Should play Sunday
Apple (hamstring), who is listed as questionable for Sunday's game against the Saints, is expected to play, Ian Rapoport of NFL Network reports.
Impact
Lower-body injuries have limited Apple to just one appearance this season, and the 2016 first-round pick only handled a special-teams role in that contest. Assuming Apple is in fact active Sunday, he should at least have a role in dime packages with regular starter Rasul Douglas not available this week after landing on the reserve/COVID-19 list.

Questionable for Sunday
Apple (hamstring) is questionable for Sunday's game at New Orleans.
Impact
The 25-year-old practiced as a full participant all week, so it's a bit of a surprise to see him carry an injury designation into the weekend. Assuming he plays, Apple should have an increased role with Rasul Douglas on the COVID-19 list.

Full speed ahead
Apple (hamstring) was a full participant in Wednesday's practice, Jonathan M. Alexander of The Charlotte Observer reports.
Impact
Apple sat out the last two games due to a hamstring injury, but barring a setback, he'll return to the lineup Sunday against the Saints, who he played 25 games for over the previous two seasons. The 2016 first-round pick has played just six snaps this year -- all on special teams -- and it's unsettled what kind of role he'll have on the Panthers' defense. The team may choose to keep Apple in a reserve role considering it has allowed just 219 passing yards per game this season -- seventh in the league.

Unavailable against Bears
Apple (hamstring) is inactive for Sunday's game versus the Bears, Myles Simmons of the Panthers' official site reports.
Impact
Apple has battled a myriad of injuries, as he'll sit out for the fifth time this season due to a hamstring issue. In the one game he did suit up, the 25-year-old cornerback played exclusively on special teams, so his absence will mainly affect the team's secondary depth.

Questionable for Sunday
Apple (hamstring) is officially listed as questionable for Sunday's game against the Bears, Joe Person of The Athletic reports.
Impact
Apple practiced fully Thursday, but he's apparently not out of the woods yet with the hamstring injury that forced him to miss last week's game. While it seems more likely than not that Apple will suit up in this one, Troy Pride would again take on a larger role if Apple ultimately sits.

Practices without limitations
Apple (hamstring) was a full participant in Thursday's practice, Alaina Getzenberg of The Charlotte Observer reports.
Impact
Apple couldn't suit up against Atlanta in Week 5 due to a lingering hamstring injury, but after having been limited Wednesday, it now looks as though he's back to full health. Barring any setbacks, he'll provide a boost to Carolina's secondary when the team faces the Bears on Sunday.

Ruled out for Week 5
Apple (hamstring) is ruled out for Sundays' game against the Falcons, Joe Person of The Athletic reports.
Impact
Apple was forced out of Carolina's Week 4 win against the Cardinals due to a hamstring injury, after having missed the first three games of the season with ankle/foot issues. Troy Pride stands to handle increased snaps in Apple's stead for at least one more contest.

Downgrades to DNP
Apple (hamstring) did not practice Thursday, Alaina Getzenberg of The Charlotte Observer reports.
Impact
Apple was a limited participant in Wednesday's practice, so his complete lack of activity Thursday is a step in the wrong direction. Troy Pride will likely handle increased defensive snaps if Apple is forced to miss Sunday's game in Atlanta.

Leaves with hamstring injury
Apple won't return to Sunday's game against the Cardinals due to a hamstring injury, Myles Simmons of the Panthers' official site reports.

Impact
Apple is poised to make his Panthers debut Sunday after missing the first three games. The 25-year-old cornerback allowed a 100.9 passer rating when targeted last year, and while that's nothing to be intrigued by, he should still be a boost to a Panthers defense that has allowed 258.3 passing yards per game -- the eighth-most in the league.
