Dante Pettis - NFL News, Rumors, & Updates

Parts ways with San Francisco The 49ers cut Pettis (calf) from their practice squad with an injury settlement Thursday, Aaron Wilson of KPRC 2 Houston reports.

Impact Pettis spent training camp with Buffalo but didn't make the 53-man roster. He joined San Francisco as part of the practice squad in late September and then suffered a calf injury. Now that he's reached an injury settlement with the club, Pettis will be free to seek work elsewhere once healthy.

Placed on practice squad IL The 49ers placed Pettis (undisclosed) on the practice squad injured list Wednesday.

49ers' reunion with Dante Pettis screams all kinds of awkwardness The 49ers brought back their 2018 Round 2 draft pick, Dante Pettis, to the practice squad. His original Niners exit certainly wasn't pretty.

SEPTEMBER 30 • NINERNOISE.COM

Joining Niners' practice squad San Francisco signed Pettis to its practice squad Tuesday, Matt Maiocco of NBC Sports Bay Area reports.

Impact The 49ers must have liked what they saw when they worked out Pettis on Tuesday, as he's now already a member of their practice squad. The team is dealing with injuries to more than a few of its wide receivers, including veterans Mike Evans (ribs) and Demarcus Robinson (ankle), so Pettis could see himself elevated to the active roster relatively soon.

Released by Buffalo The Bills released Pettis on Saturday.

Impact Pettis signed with the Bills in late July. The wide receiver is a versatile special-teams player but could not do enough to make the roster over younger talent. The 30-year-old played in Thursday night's preseason finale against the Bills, catching one of three targets for 16 yards. Pettis is now a free agent able to sign with any organization.

Signs with Buffalo The Bills signed Pettis to a contract Thursday.

Impact The 2018 second-rounder has played in 66 career games, racking up 92 catches for 1,231 yards and 13 touchdowns. He participated in eight regular-season contests for the Saints in 2025, collecting nine receptions for 127 yards, but he was primarily a special teams player. The release of Jalen Virgil (undisclosed) enabled Pettis to earn a roster spot for training camp.

Bills sign wide receiver Dante Pettis to one-year deal Pettis, 30, has eight years of NFL experience with four different teams, most recently playing for the New Orleans Saints from 2024-25

Records 60 receiving yards in loss Pettis brought in all five targets for 60 yards in the Saints' 19-17 loss to the Falcons on Sunday. He also returned two punts for 17 yards.

Impact Both Chris Olave (illness) and Mason Tipton (IR, groin) were unavailable Sunday, thrusting Pettis into an expanded role. The journeyman wideout/returner turned in a solid performance, tying for the team lead in receptions while falling just a yard short of doing the same in receiving yards. Pettis appeared in eight games for the Saints in 2025, generating a 9-127-0 line on 11 targets while adding 351 kickoff-return yards and 79 punt-return yards while playing out a one-year deal.

Looks set to start Week 18 Pettis is positioned as one of the Saints' top remaining wide receivers for Sunday's season finale against the Falcons due to Chris Olave (illness) being ruled out for Week 18,

Impact Pettis and Kevin Austin appear set to operate as the Saints' top receivers in Week 18 with Olave ruled out due to a blood clot in his lung and Mason Tipton (groin) having been placed on IR. Behind Pettis and Austin, wideouts Ronnie Bell and Samori Toure have been signed from the practice squad. An experience veteran with eight seasons in the NFL under his belt, Pettis may be the most reliable target remaining in New Orleans' wide receiver corps, though Austin has demonstrated greater chemistry with rookie QB Tyler Shough, having strung together three straight games with multiple receptions. Pettis, meanwhile, brought in three of four targets for 53 yards versus the Titans in Week 17 and stands to see his opportunity share increase against Atlanta.

JANUARY 2 • ROTOWIRE

Grabs three passes Week 17 Pettis gathered in three of four targets for 53 yards during Sunday's 34-26 victory over the Titans.

Impact Pettis logged more than one target for the first time this season, as he finished tied for third on the team in this category Sunday. The 30-year-old served as the Saints' WR3 with Mason Tipton (groin) inactive. Coming into Week 17, Pettis totaled just one reception on two targets across six appearances. He could see a moderate workload again if Tipton remains sidelined in the regular-season finale versus Atlanta.

Joins active roster The Saints signed Pettis from their practice squad to the active roster Wednesday.

Impact The 2018 second-round pick from Washington has appeared in each of the Saints' last three games, catching his lone target for 14 yards while also accumulating 126 kick-return yards and 30 punt-return yards. Now with the active roster, Pettis will likely remain a depth option in New Orleans' receiving corps while operating as the top return man in the Week 14 matchup against the Buccaneers.
