Returns to limited practice Swift (undisclosed) will be a limited practice participant Wednesday, Dave Birkett of the Detroit Free Press reports.

Impact Swift's ability to return to work a few days after sitting out practice suggests his undisclosed injury isn't serious, but he nonetheless missed out on a few chances to make an impression with the first-team offense. The rookie is battling Kerryon Johnson for playing time in what likely will be a committee backfield. Though Johnson and Swift profile as the frontrunners to handle most of the snaps, there's also some chance Bo Scarbrough (undisclosed) could steal short-yardage work, and other backs like -- Ty Johnson, Jason Huntley, Jonathan Williams could also vie for small roles.

Doesn't practice Friday Swift did not take part in practice Friday, Tim Twentyman of the Lions' official site reports.

Impact Twentyman didn't have an immediate reason for Swift's absence from practice, but he and Bo Scarborough (undisclosed) were reportedly both out of commission. Assuming the absence isn't expected to be a long one, Swift, who has impressed as a receiver early in camp, should be a major factor in the Lions' backfield as a rookie.

Impressing as receiver Swift has impressed as a receiver thus far in training camp, Nick Baumgardner of The Athletic reports.

Impact The report notes that Swift has looked like anything but a rookie. Specifically, the Georgia product hasn't had an issue running routes against linebackers or safeties, regardless of whether Swift lines up in the slot, out wide, or out of the backfield. With Kerryon Johnson (undisclosed) missing reps Tuesday -- though possibly for maintenance reasons -- Swift is getting plenty of reps as a runner as well.
