Impact Swift entered the concussion protocol Thursday, giving him little-to-no chance to be ready for Sunday's game. It's also possible he misses a second contest, as the Lions have their customary Thanksgiving Day game next Thursday against the Texans. Adrian Peterson figures to serve as the lead ballcarrier while Swift is out, with Kerryon Johnson likely handling most of the passing situations. It's a tough break for the rookie after he busted loose for 149 total yards and a touchdown in the Week 10 win over Washington.

Adrian Peterson and Kerryon Johnson would likely split reps out of the backfield if Swift isn't able to suit up in Carolina.

While Swift's efficiency both through the air and on the ground against a solid Washington defensive front shouldn't give the Lions coaching staff any reason to go away from him, it's not certain the committee approach at running back is over in Detroit. How Swift is used in Week 11 against a declining Panthers defense will be telling.

The rookie had already seen his playing time pick up in the previous three weeks, clearing 40 percent offensive snap shares in all of those contests. While Detroit likely won't ask Swift to handle anything resembling a bell-cow role, the fact that he's being listed as a starter ahead of Peterson for the first time this season at least offers hope that the 21-year-old will see an uptick in touches over the second half of the campaign.

Impact Swift accounted for 13 of the team's 27 total rushing attempts, his second-highest total of the season. He was fairly effective, racking up two carries of more than 15 yards. Swift also remained effective as a receiver, recording a 19-yard reception on the team's first drive of the fourth quarter. He came close to 100 total yards for the second time in his career and appears poised to continue to increase his role in the backfield as the season wears on. Swift's next opportunity to take the field will come in Week 10 against Washington.

While it's worth noting that Kerryon Johnson stole a receiving score, Swift's obvious struggles in pass protection suggest the rookie could see a downturn in passing-game work or even land in coach Matt Patricia's dog house. Swift at least has some upside in Week 9 against a Vikings defense allowing the third-most points per game (32.0) in 2020.

Impact Swift posted his best game as a professional, as he saw his involvement in the offense spike significantly following the team's bye in Week 5. Entering the game, Swift had seen no more than five carries and 10 total touches in any contest. However, he took advantage of the increased opportunity, breaking off a 54-yard run -- the team's longest offensive play of the day -- while also finding the end zone twice from near the goal line. Adrian Peterson still earned 15 touches, though it's difficult to envision coach Matt Patricia turning away from Swift after this strong performance. The Lions will draw another manageable matchup in Week 7 against the Falcons.
