NFL free agency RB rankings: Will Aaron Jones, Chris Carson find big paydays? Teams still believe running backs matter, and Jones, Carson, Leonard Fournette should sign lucrative deals. Here is the class in tiers.

Rushes for 77 yards in loss Carson rushed 16 times for 77 yards and caught one of two targets for five yards in Saturday's 30-20 wild-card loss to the Rams.
Impact The Seahawks' offense struggled to move the chains Saturday, but Carson was running hard once again, averaging 4.8 yards per carry. The 26-year-old running back had a down year as the Seahawks shifted to a more pass-heavy scheme than before. Carson rushed 141 times for 681 yards and five touchdowns over 12 games and 37 receptions (46 targets) for 287 yards and four touchdowns. His 4.8 yards per carry was a career high. The 2017 seventh-round pick is set to be an unrestricted free agent in March. His performance makes a strong case for him to be re-signed by the Seahawks. The fact that Rashaad Penny, DeeJay Dallas and Travis Homer (knee) failed to produce this year helps Carson's cause as well.

Clear for wild-card round Carson (foot) doesn't have a designation for Saturday's wild-card matchup with the Rams, John Boyle of the Seahawks' official site reports.
Impact Carson's practice reps were capped this week, the result of load management. After sitting out Tuesday and logging a limited session Wednesday, he's set to lead the Seahawks backfield yet again this weekend. Since returning to action Week 12 after four games missed due to a mid-foot sprain, Carson has averaged 15 touches for 83 yards from scrimmage per game while scoring three TDs over six contests.
JANUARY 7 • ROTOWIRE
Upgrades to limited participation Carson (foot) was a limited participant at Wednesday's practice, Gregg Bell of The Tacoma News Tribune reports.
Impact Carson upgraded his participation after sitting out of Tuesday's practice. For both practice sessions, he was designated with a "load management" tag to go along with the foot injury. The fourth-year running back has logged limited practices ever since returning from a foot sprain Week 12, but he's on track to play in Saturday's wild-card game against the Rams. Carson has averaged 16 touches and 87.8 yards from scrimmage per game over the past five weeks, scoring two touchdowns in that stretch.
JANUARY 6 • ROTOWIRE
Starts week with DNP Carson (foot) was a non-participant at Tuesday's practice, John Boyle of the Seahawks' official site reports.
Impact The Seahawks typically manage Carson's reps during the practice week, and they're explicitly doing so once again. Along with the foot injury, the Seahawks listed Carson with a "load management" tag. If Carson's absence extends into Wednesday and Thursday's practices, then there will be some cause for concern. Carson has logged between 13 and 19 touches in each of the past five games, and he's expected to handle a similar role in Saturday's wild-card game against the Rams.
JANUARY 5 • ROTOWIRE
Posts 83 yards in win Carson (foot) rushed 11 times for 44 yards and caught both of his targets for 39 yards in Sunday's 26-23 win over San Francisco.
Impact Carson finishes the 2020 regular season with 681 rushing yards and five touchdowns over 12 games. While this appears to be a step backward after eclipsing the 1,000-yard mark each of the last two years, the power back actually set new career highs in yards per carry (4.9), receiving yards (287) and receiving touchdowns (four) while missing four games due to injury. The 26-year-old will become an unrestricted free agent this upcoming offseason, so it will be interesting to see if the Seahawks decide to uncharacteristically open the checkbook for anyone not named Russell Wilson. Carson could potentially land in another situation that is more conducive to a downhill runner like him, and his slight improvement as both a runner and receiver this season could move his fantasy arrow upward if that were to happen. In the meantime, he and the rest of the Seahawks will take on the Rams in the first round of the playoffs Saturday.

JANUARY 1 • SPORTINGNEWS.COM
Cleared to play Carson (foot) doesn't have a designation on the final injury report for Sunday's game at San Francisco, Curtis Crabtree of Sports Radio 950 KJR Seattle reports.
Impact The Seahawks have managed Carson's practice reps ever since he returned from a four-game absence Week 12. He's averaging 12.8 carries, 3.8 targets and 83 total yards per game since his return, scoring three touchdowns in five games. The Seahawks could lean on Carson a bit more than usual if backup Carlos Hyde (questionable, illness) isn't active Sunday.
JANUARY 1 • ROTOWIRE
Puts in another limited practice Carson (foot) was limited at practice Thursday, John Boyle of the Seahawks' official site reports.
Impact Carson again had his reps capped, as has been the case for the running back since he returned Week 12 from four contests missed due to a foot sprain. During his most recent five-game stretch, he's averaged 15.4 touches for 83 yards from scrimmage per game while scoring three TDs. Assuming he's the lead back for the Seahawks on Sunday against the 49ers, Carson can expect a similar workload.
DECEMBER 31, 2020 • ROTOWIRE
Limited in practice Wednesday Carson (foot) was a limited participant in Wednesday's practice, John Boyle of the Seahawks' official site reports.
Impact Carson returned from a foot sprain Week 12, and he's consistently been limited during practice to manage his reps. There's no real cause for concern about his status ahead of the season finale against San Francisco unless he downgrades to no participation Thursday or Friday. With the NFC's No. 1 seed still in play, Carson likely is preparing for a workhorse role this week.
DECEMBER 30, 2020 • ROTOWIRE
Produces 79 scrimmage yards Carson (foot) carried 16 times for 69 yards and caught all three of his targets for an additional 10 yards during Sunday's 20-9 win over the Rams.
Impact Carson shrugged off a minor injury to handle his largest workload in terms of touches since Week 4. He averaged a respectable 4.3 yards per carry against a tough Rams front and did little with his receptions despite hauling in each pass thrown his way. Carson was held out of the end zone for the second straight game, which is actually his longest such stretch of the season, but his health and production bode well for the newly-crowned NFC West champions. He will look to finish the regular season with a bang in next Sunday's matchup with the 49ers.

Full practice Thursday Carson (foot) returned to a full practice Thursday, John Boyle of the Seahawks' official site reports.
Impact Carson recorded a season-high 70 percent of Seattle's offensive snaps in the team's Week 15 win over Washington. In the process, he carried 15 times for 63 yards and caught two of three targets for six yards. Now that he's practicing fully again this week, Carson is in line to continue to lead the Seahawks backfield Sunday against the Rams, with Carlos Hyde and Rashaad Penny on hand to work in complementary roles.
DECEMBER 24, 2020 • ROTOWIRE
Limited at practice Carson (foot) was a limited participant at Wednesday's practice, John Boyle of the Seahawks' official site reports.
Impact Despite the Seahawks having Rashaad Penny (knee) back in action Week 15 for the first time this season, Carson logged a campaign-high 70 percent of the offensive snaps at Washington. Carson turned the elevated role into 17 touches for 69 yards from scrimmage, while Carlos Hyde made the most of his four touches with a 50-yard TD run, Penny had two carries for six yards, and DeeJay Dallas suffered a severe ankle sprain. Assuming Carson gets through the practice week unscathed, as he has for each of Seattle's previous four contests, he should be the team's lead back Sunday against the Rams.

Rumbles for 63 yards Carson rushed 15 times for 63 yards and caught two of three targets for six yards in Sunday's 20-15 win over Washington.
Impact While Rashaad Penny did return from last year's torn ACL in this contest, Carson was the clear lead back once again, handling 15 of the 18 backfield carries. The fourth-year running back finished with more than 60 rushing yards for a third straight game, but he didn't get any goal-line chances and failed to find the end zone as a result. Penny won't push Carson for a starting role anytime soon, so the latter should handle his typical workload in a Week 16 clash against the Rams.
