Impact Brown was the only running back to record a carry for the second straight game to begin the season. However, he was also extremely inefficient once again, averaging only 2.9 yards per attempt with a long of just 11 yards. This performance was a bit more justifiable, as Jake Browning entered the game halfway through the second quarter after Joe Burrow (toe) was sidelined, allowing the Jaguars to focus on short areas of the field defensively. The Bengals don't have strong alternatives to Brown to take carries, but he now has only 90 yards on the ground on 37 carries across the first two games of the campaign.

His final carry was a one-yard TD plunge on fourth down, with Samaje Perine then taking over on the next drive. Perine may have a role on clear passing situations, but it looks like Brown will open the regular season handling most of Cincinnati's backfield snaps and a huge share of the carries. If it doesn't work out, the Bengals have Perine and rookie sixth-round pick Tahj Brooks as favorites for the second and third spots on the depth chart. They'll open the regular season with a road game against the Browns at 1 p.m. ET on Sun., Sept. 7.

Primed for huge season? Bengals offensive coordinator Dan Pitcher said Wednesday that he expects Brown to be "a household name" by the end of the season, Jori Epstein of Yahoo Sports reports.

After not playing much as a rookie, the 2023 fifth-round pick became one of the highest-volume backs in the league by the second half of last season, logging at least 50 snaps and 15 touches in each of his last eight games. He averaged 18.9 carries for 78.9 yards and 4.8 catches for 37.4 yards over that eight-game stretch, with three rushing TDs and three receiving scores. The Bengals probably want to reduce Brown's workload at least a little bit, but that partially depends on how things come along with their backups, namely Zack Moss (NFI - neck), Samaje Perine and rookie Tahj Brooks.
