Impact Hill has been given a permanent spot on the active roster after being elevated from the practice squad for each of the previous two games. His usage has been limited to special teams thus far with the 49ers, and that should remain the case Thursday, even with starting running back Elijah Mitchell (knee) still sidelined.

Leading rusher Saturday Hill carried the ball 14 times for 63 yards and caught two of three targets for 19 yards in Saturday's preseason loss to the Bears.

Impact While his numbers were solid, Hill may not have put any distance between himself and the other candidates fighting for depth roles in the Titans' backfield -- Mekhi Sargent got the start and gained 51 rushing yards and a TD, while the newly signed Javian Hawkins added 49 rushing yards and a touchdown and even fullback Khari Blasingame chipped in 64 combined yards. Hill also seemed to get shaken up on a run late in the game, but he was able to walk off the field under his own power, per John Glennon of BroadwaySportsMedia.com. Derrick Henry is of course locked into the lead role, with Darrynton Evans (leg) expected to be the No. 2 RB if he's healthy by Week 1, leaving Hill or whoever wins the No. 3 spot little opportunity for touches without an injury ahead of them.

Impact Hill was listed as the co-second string running back on the team's initial depth chart, yet he worked behind Darrynton Evans (knee), Jeremy McNichols and Mekhi Sargent. That may have simply been part of coach Mike Vrabel's plan for the game, and Hill broke off several runs of six and seven yards once he entered the contest. Hill is coming off his most productive season as a pro in 2020 and hope to earn some sort of backup role with the Titans this year.

Impact Hill joined the Titans in the offseason coming off the most productive season of his career. Even so, he came into training camp in a battle with both McNichols and Darrynton Evans for a role and potentially a roster spot. Hill is currently listed as the team's co-number two back with Evans, so presumably he's outperformed McNichols to this point in camp. However, without an injury to Derrick Henry, Hill will have a hard time earning any significant amount of touches out of the backfield.

Impact Hill managed a respectable 4.7 yards per carry on 100 attempts behind a poor Atlanta offensive line last season, but there's no chance that he'll become much more than a lightly used No. 2 option behind Derrick Henry in Tennessee. He could provide competition to 2020 third-round pick Darrynton Evans for the top backup gig, but that job won't guarantee a consistent workload as long as Henry is healthy.
