Browns again hurt themselves in painful road loss to Falcons

Impact Patterson was limited in the second half of Sunday's win over the Browns due to a knee issue he dealt with in practice last week, which paved the way for Huntley, who was elevated from the practice squad, and Allgeier, a rookie fifth-round pick, to garner major roles in Atlanta's comeback win. Huntley rushed 10 times for 56 yards and a touchdown, with the majority of that production coming on one drive in the second half. His performance has earned him a spot on the active roster, but Allgeier likely will get first crack at being the lead back in Patterson's absence. Regardless, both running backs face a difficult matchup against Tampa Bay in Week 5.

Impact The injuries keep coming for the Falcons' running back room, which already has Damien Williams (ribs) on IR, so the rookie fifth-round pick may get an extended look as a lead back early in his career. With Patterson limited in the second half, Atlanta turned to Allgeier (11 touches for 104 yards) and Caleb Huntley (10 rushes for 56 yards and a score), as the two dominated on the ground en route to a comeback victory. After being elevated from the practice squad ahead of Week 4, Huntley officially was signed to the active roster Monday to take Patterson's spot, but Allgeier figures to get the first crack as the team's lead back in the absence of Patterson and Williams. Avery Williams, who was converted to running back this offseason, likely will get a few additional looks as well, but he's been limited to a change-of-pace role to start the season. Through three appearances, Allgeier has totaled 28 touches for 164 yards from scrimmage (5.9 yards per touch), but he'll face a stiff test against Tampa Bay in Week 5.

Impact With starting running back Cordarrelle Patterson (knee) having been placed on the Falcons' injured reserve list Monday, the team saw fit to promote Huntley from its practice squad. The undrafted free agent out of Ball State rushed effectively with Patterson limited during Atlanta's 23-20 victory versus Cleveland on Sunday, taking 10 carries for 56 yards and a touchdown. Huntley actually tied rookie fifth-rounder Tyler Allgeier for the team lead in carries in Week 4, so it would not be surprising to see those two split carries as long as Patterson remains out.

Impact Patterson will need to spend at least four games on IR, but per D. Orlando Ledbetter of The Atlanta Journal-Constitution the plan is for him to return. An actual timetable for Patterson's recovery remains undisclosed, as do details of his knee procedure. The veteran entered Sunday's 23-20 win over the Brown nursing a knee injury, and he logged only one carry in the second half before opting for surgery Monday. Rookie running back Tyler Allgeier looks primed for increased work in Patterson's stead, and Atlanta also inked Caleb Huntley to the 53-man roster in a corresponding move.

Younghoe Koo - Perfect in win Koo converted on all three of his field-goal attempts and both point-after tries during Sunday's 23-20 victory over the Browns.
Impact Koo opened the scoring with a 30-yard field goal on the Falcons' first offensive possession, and after connecting on back-to-back PATs, he added a game-tying 21-yard chip shot and a game-winning 45-yard field goal in the fourth quarter. Atlanta's offense continues to move the ball well, but they've struggled mightily in the red zone, which bodes well for Koo's overall fantasy potential. Through four games, the fifth-year kicker has made 10 of 12 field-goal attempts and all nine of his extra-point tries.

Avery Williams - One touch in Week 4 Williams rushed once for 21 yards during Sunday's 23-20 win over Cleveland. He also returned one punt for 18 yards.
Impact The Falcons went run-heavy in the second half as Tyler Allgeier, Caleb Huntley and Williams all got in on the act, while Cordarrelle Patterson took a backseat after being featured in the first half. Williams played just seven offensive snaps and continues to garner a small depth role, totaling eight touches for 51 yards across four games.

Parker Hesse - Catches only target in win Hesse secured his only target for 22 yards during Sunday's 23-20 win over the Browns.
Impact Hesse's lone reception came on the team's second offensive possession and set up a 13-yard touchdown run by Cordarrelle Patterson. The backup tight end actually out-snapped Kyle Pitts 48 to 34 as Atlanta leaned on its run game in the second half. That trend is unlikely to continue, but it does show the confidence the Falcons have in Hesse as a run blocker. Across four games, Hesse has caught three of four targets for 32 yards while playing over 60 percent of the team's offensive snaps in each contest.

Kyle Pitts - Catches only one pass in win Pitts caught one of four targets for 25 yards during Sunday's 23-20 win over the Browns.
Impact Pitts played a season-low 62 percent of the team's offensive snaps, but he still finished second on the team in targets behind Drake London (two catches on seven targets for 17 yards). Regardless, the second-year tight end's production was certainly disappointing after he caught five of eight targets for 87 yards -- all season highs -- during the team's Week 3 win over the Seahawks. Through four games, Pitts has caught 10 of 22 targets for 150 yards, and he's still only secured one touchdown across 21 career games.

Olamide Zaccheaus - Leads team with 55 receiving yards Zaccheaus caught both of his targets for 55 yards during Sunday's 23-20 win over the Browns.
Impact Zaccheaus' first catch went for 13 yards on a third-and-eight play on the Falcons' first offensive drive, which ended with a 30-yard field goal. The slot receiver wasn't targeted again until the fourth quarter when he got open down the sideline for 42 yards, which set up the eventual game-winning 45-yard kick from Younghoe Koo. Zaccheaus continues to work as the No. 2 wideout behind Drake London, catching all 10 of his targets for 174 yards and a touchdown across four games, but his fantasy ceiling will be limited as long as London and second-year tight end Kyle Pitts are healthy.

Marcus Mariota - Performs horribly in win Mariota completed just seven of 19 pass attempts for 139 yards and an interception while rushing five times for three yards in Sunday's 23-20 win over Cleveland.
Impact Mariota got the win for his team, but he certainly did not help his fantasy managers with his final stat line. The former first-round pick was under duress all game by the Browns' elite pass rush unit. Mariota had been putting up strong fantasy results leading up to this near-negative game, so there is a chance for a bounce-back performance against the Buccaneers -- who are much tighter against opposing rushing attacks -- next Sunday.

Impact Atlanta's passing game was a non-factor despite the team getting the victory, resulting in poor stat lines for London and the rest of the receiving corps. The Falcons' first-round pick from this year's draft led the team with seven targets, with no other wideout receiving more than two. London had been a reliable starting fantasy option prior to Sunday's dud, so fantasy managers should remain confident heading into a matchup against Tampa Bay next Sunday.

Impact Huntley was promoted from the practice squad Saturday and immediately made an impact. Lead back Cordarrelle Patterson (knee) may have been limited in the win, resulting in the extra work for the undrafted rookie out of Ball State. Huntley is still third, at best, on the running-back depth chart, but the successful committee approach could earn the 23-year-old more opportunities moving forward. It will be interesting to see how the backfield touches are distributed against the Buccaneers' top-five rush defense next Sunday.

Impact The Falcons went with a committee approach to their backfield Sunday, splitting carries between Allgeier (10), Caleb Huntley (10) and starter Cordarrelle Patterson (nine). The rookie did the most with his touches, but the other two backs scored a touchdown each. Patterson (knee) was banged up during practice this week, which could have resulted in the sudden shift in touch distribution. Allgeier will look to build upon the best game of his young career in a tough matchup against the Buccaneers next Sunday.

Impact Patterson was held out of practice this week with a knee injury, but he was ultimately cleared for action before kickoff as previously reported. The converted wide receiver finished with a strong fantasy game thanks to his third rushing score of the season. It is worth noting that Patterson fell behind Tyler Allgeier (10 carries for 84 yards) and Caleb Huntley (10 carries for 56 yards and a touchdown) in touches despite no reports of an injury after the game. A committee approach to the backfield would hurt the veteran's fantasy value, especially considering the lack of targets (four receptions for 28 yards) out of the backfield with Marcus Mariota under center so far this season. Patterson and Atlanta's rushing attack will face a stout Tampa Bay rushing defense next Sunday.
