Drawing interest from Chargers
The Chargers are expected to sign Roberts on Wednesday, Ian Rapoport of NFL Network reports.
Impact
Roberts was released by the Texans on Monday and appears to have quickly found a new team. Nasir Adderley, the Chargers primary kick returner and starting free safety, had to leave Week 6 early with a hip injury, so if Roberts is signed, he may take over return duties when the Chargers return from their bye week.

Let go by Houston
Roberts was released by the Texans on Monday, Aaron Wilson of Sportstalk 790 Houston reports.
Impact
Roberts was utilized primarily as a kick and punt returner through the first six weeks of the season, racking up 386 kick return yards and 33 punt return yards. He also hauled in one catch for 35 yards. Roberts will now look for work elsewhere following a brief stint with his seventh different NFL team.

Should help replace Amendola
Roberts is expected to see more reps in three-receiver sets Sunday against the Patriots with Danny Amendola (thigh) inactive for the contest, Aaron Wilson of Sportstalk 790 Houston...
Impact
Houston's decision to release Anthony Miller earlier this week hinted that Amendola would likely be ready to play after missing the previous two contests, but the veteran slot man will ultimately sit out another game. Brandin Cooks and Chris Conley are locked in as starting receivers for Houston, and Roberts looks like the top candidate to fill out the No. 3 wideout spot ahead of Chris Moore and Davion Davis, who have combined to play just two snaps on offense this season. Roberts, meanwhile, has played 22 offensive snaps through Houston's first four games, recording a 35-yard reception across two targets.

Texans must improve run and defense as QB Mills settles in
Since the start of training camp Houston coach David Culley has insisted the Texans would have to run the ball effectively and force turnovers to win this season

Forced into duty
Roberts caught one of two targets for 35 yards in Sunday's 31-21 loss to Cleveland.
Impact
Roberts has played fewer than 200 offensive snaps in each season since 2016, but he was forced into action Sunday after injuries to Nico Collins (shoulder) and Danny Amendola (hamstring). This is the byproduct of carrying five running backs on the 53-man roster; the Texans only have six players listed as wide receivers, even though Roberts is really a return specialist. Collins and Amendola joined Anthony Miller, who was healthy but inactive after dealing with a shoulder injury during the preseason, on the sidelines, forcing Houston offensive coordinator Tim Kelly to adapt.

Absent from injury report
Roberts (knee) isn't listed on Wednesday's injury report, Sarah Barshop of ESPN.com reports.
Impact
Coach David Culley previously said Roberts was expected to be available for the season opener, so it's not a major surprise to see him clear of the injury report. The 33-year-old is expected to handle return duties and work as a depth wideout during his first year in Houston.

On track for regular-season opener
Coach David Culley said Monday that Roberts (knee) is on track for Sept. 12's season opener against the Jaguars, Deepi Sidhu of the Texans' official site reports.
Impact
Culley said Roberts, who was sidelined for all of Houston's preseason matchups, "is progressing well." Per independent NFL journalist Aaron Wilson, Roberts dealt with a bruised knee and had it drained. It will be a notable boon for the Texans if the Pro Bowl return specialist is indeed able to avoid missing any regular-season time.

Dealing with bruised knee
Roberts has been absent from practice as he rehabs from a bruised knee, independent NFL journalist Aaron Wilson reports.
Impact
Roberts was held out of all the Texans' preseason contests with an unknown injury, which has now been disclosed as a bruised knee. Despite his inactivity, there is no concern that he won't be ready for Week 1. The 33-year-old return specialist has amassed 200-plus punt-return yards in five straight seasons.

Not yet practicing
Roberts hasn't been at practice recently for an unspecified reason, independent NFL journalist Aaron Wilson reports.
Impact
Roberts was held out of each of Houston's first two preseason games, and he apparently hasn't joined the team for practice recently. While the Texans haven't given a reason for the 33-year-old's absence, he's expected to be ready by Week 1. Assuming he's healthy for the start of the regular season, Roberts is expected to serve as the primary return man and as a depth receiver.

ROTOWIRE
Will not play Saturday
Roberts will not play in Saturday's preseason opener against the Packers, NFL reporter Aaron Wilson reports.
Impact
It has not been reported that Roberts is dealing with an injury, so it would appear the veteran is simply getting the night off. Roberts is in line to serve as the Texans' primary return man and as a reserve receiver for his new team.

Signs on with Houston
Roberts is signing a two-year contract with the Texans, Tom Pelissero of NFL Network reports.
Impact
The contract reportedly is worth up to $5.95 million, though some of that may be in unlikely-to-be-earned incentives. Roberts primarily has served as a return specialist throughout the second half of his career, reaching the Pro Bowl three straight seasons from 2018 to 2020. It's an odd luxury signing for a team that otherwise seems to be rebuilding, unless the team for some reason thinks Roberts can reemerge as a receiving threat in his age-33 campaign.
