Scotty Pippen Jr. News, Rumors, Updates - Memphis Grizzlies

Five dimes off bench Pippen supplied nine points (2-7 FG, 0-3 3Pt, 5-6 FT), two rebounds, five assists and three steals in 20 minutes during Wednesday's 123-103 win over the Jazz.

Impact Pippen is playing the backup role at point guard to begin the year. Ty Jeromes, who erupted for 45 points Wednesday, appears to have a strong hold on the top spot at the one for the time being.

Productive off bench Pippen recorded 10 points (3-5 FG, 2-3 3Pt, 2-2 FT), four assists and one steal in 16 minutes during Monday's 132-123 preseason win over the Hawks.

Impact Pippen came off the bench behind Ty Jerome, who started at point guard, but played well alongside Cam Spencer in the second unit. Pippen is considered Jerome's primary competition for the starting point guard job and should remain firmly in the rotation even if he begins the season as a reserve.

Challenging Jerome for starting spot Pippen is viewed as the biggest challenger to Ty Jerome for the starting point guard job, Damichael Cole of The Memphis Commercial Appeal reports.

Impact With Ja Morant out of the picture, Jerome has emerged as the most likely candidate to fill his shoes, though Pippen is also in the mix. Head coach Tumoas Iisalo called the 25-year-old guard an "easy fit" alongside other players thanks to his ballhandling, defense and ability to hit perimeter shots, and he figures to take on a sizable role regardless of whether he starts. Pippen is coming off an injury-riddled 2025-26 season in which he appeared in just 10 regular-season games (six starts), averaging 11.4 points, 4.7 assists, 2.2 rebounds and 1.9 steals in 21.2 minutes per contest. He shot just 31.3 percent from deep in that small sample last season, though he's a career 39.3 percent shooter from three-point range.

Going through practices Pippen is a full participant to begin training camp, Grizzlies president of basketball operations Zach Kleiman said, according to Memphis reporter Landon Speck.

Impact Pippen continues to go through camp without any health-related restrictions, clearing the way for him to compete normally throughout the preseason. The guard's full participation is an encouraging after he underwent a toe procedure back in March. As Memphis begins sorting out its backcourt rotation ahead of the regular season, Pippen's battle with Ty Jerome will be one to watch.

AUGUST 25 • BEALESTREETBEARS.COM

Competing for top point guard role Pippen (toe) has a chance to begin the new year as Memphis' starting point guard after Portland acquired Ja Morant in a trade with the Grizzlies earlier this offseason.

Impact Pippen will have to gain clearance ahead of training camp after undergoing a toe procedure in March, but he certainly appears to be a winner of the team's offseason moves. Ty Jerome (ankle) poses a significant risk to Pippen's role, however, and the two guards figure to engage in a battle for the top role at the point this fall. Pippen is looking to bounce back following an injury-ruined 2025-25 campaign, during which he averaged 11.4 points, 4.7 assists, 2.2 rebounds and 1.9 steals in 21.2 minutes per game across 10 regular-season appearances (six starts).

Timberwolves should be blowing up the Grizzlies' phone, but not for a Ja Morant trade Trading for Ja Morant might be too risky, but a trade for Ty Jerome or Scotty Pippen Jr. would be perfect for the Timberwolves.
