Spurs' championship hopes ride on the one thing Julian Champagnie can control
If it wasn't already obvious to San Antonio Spurs fans, Julian Champagnie is key to their playoff hopes, but not in the way they may expect.

Strikes for 20 in comeback win
Champagnie closed Friday's 116-112 win over the Clippers with 20 points (6-10 FG, 5-8 3Pt, 3-5 FT), nine rebounds and one assist in 29 minutes.
Impact
The Spurs were down by 25 points early in the third quarter, but Champagnie was one the players who stepped up down the stretch to erase the deficit. The fourth-year forward has scored in double digits in six of his last seven games, averaging 14.6 points, 5.9 boards, 3.6 threes, 1.9 assists and 1.6 combined steals and blocks during that span while shooting 52.3 percent from the floor and a sizzling 54.3 percent (25-for-46) from beyond the arc.

Will play Friday
Champagnie (knee) is available for Friday's game against the Clippers, Paul Garcia of ProjectSpurs.com reports.
Impact
Champagnie initially drew the questionable tag for Friday's game due to right knee soreness, but the fourth-year pro was given the green light to play after going through pregame warmups. He's coming off a solid performance against the Pistons on Thursday, when he logged 16 points, seven rebounds, one assist and three three-pointers over 31 minutes in a 121-106 victory.

Iffy for Friday
Champagnie (knee) is questionable for Friday's game against the Clippers due to right knee soreness, per Paul Garcia of ProjectSpurs.com.
Impact
Champagnie is in danger of missing the second half of a back-to-back set after picking up a knee issue during Thursday's win over the Pistons. The fourth-year wing has been on a heater lately, scoring in double figures in five of his last six outings while shooting a blistering 52.6 percent from deep during that span. If he were to miss Friday's game, more minutes on the wing may open up for Keldon Johnson, Lindy Water and others.

Efficient output vs. Detroit
Champagnie finished Thursday's 121-106 victory over Detroit with 16 points (4-8 FG, 3-6 3Pt, 5-7 FT), seven rebounds and one assist across 31 minutes.
Impact
Champagnie has had inconsistent scoring figures throughout the season, but he seems to be turning things around of late. Even though he holds a secondary role on the Spurs' offensive scheme, he's found a way to score in double digits in five of his last six games. Over that six-game stretch, Champagnie is averaging 13.7 points, 5.3 rebounds and 2.0 assists per game while shooting an impressive, and probably unsustainable, 52.6 percent from three-point range.

Catches fire from three
Champagnie amassed 26 points (10-14 FG, 6-9 3Pt), two rebounds, two assists, two blocks and three steals in 24 minutes during Thursday's 126-110 win over the Nets.
Impact
Champagnie turned in one of his best games of the season. He's shown that when called upon, he's capable of lighting it up from beyond the arc. That was the case Thursday as Champagnie shot 71.4-percent from the field while making six threes. The fourth-year wing has started in 45 of the 59 games he's played in for San Antonio this year, while shooting 38.2-percent from three on an average of 6.5 attempts per game.

Buries six triples
Champagnie finished with 17 points (6-12 FG, 5-8 3Pt), six rebounds, two blocks, one assist and one steal over 36 minutes in Monday's 114-103 victory over the Pistons.
Impact
Champagnie delivered a strong outing from beyond the arc, knocking down five threes in the Spurs' win. It was a much-needed performance for the wing, who had been mired in a cold stretch, averaging 5.8 points, 3.4 rebounds and 1.4 assists while shooting 40.9 percent from the field and 29.4 percent from deep over his previous five games. With Monday's showing, Champagnie has now connected on five-plus triples in eight contests this season.

Posts dud in win
Champagnie amassed zero points (0-3 FG, 0-3 3Pt), three rebounds, one assist and one block over 20 minutes during Wednesday's 126-113 win over the Warriors.
Impact
Champagnie has been a very reliable rotation player for San Antonio this season, so this can be chalked up as a rare dud. Across 54 appearances, he's averaging 11.1 points, 5.9 rebounds, 1.4 assists and 2.4 three-pointers in 27.9 minutes per contest.

Modest effort Wednesday
Champagnie finished with eight points (3-6 FG, 2-5 3Pt), five rebounds and three assists across 27 minutes during Wednesday's 116-106 win over the Thunder.
Impact
Champagnie produced another passive performance, scoring fewer than 15 points for the fifth straight game. Since the return of Devin Vassell from injury, Champagnie has seen his overall value take a hit, averaging 10.7 points and 2.3 three-pointers in six appearances over the past two weeks. Moving forward, managers should consider him a stream-level player for anyone seeking a boost in perimeter production.

Not listed on injury report
Champagnie (eye) is not listed on the injury report ahead of Saturday's game in Charlotte.
Impact
Champagnie was forced out of Wednesday's win over Houston after he got poked in the eye, but it looks like that will be a non-issue moving forward, considering he's not even being listed on the injury report. Champagnie is averaging 11.5 points, 6.1 rebounds and 2.5 triples per game this season.

Doesn't return Wednesday
Champagnie (eye) exited Wednesday's 111-99 win over Houston in the fourth quarter and did not return.
Impact
The 24-year-old forward took a shot to the eye and headed back to the locker room with 8:48 remaining in the contest. While Champagnie eventually made his way back to the bench, it's unclear if he was available to return. He finished with two points (1-4 FG, 0-3 3Pt) and three rebounds across 21 minutes. His next opportunity to play will come Saturday against the Hornets.
