Dealt to Philadelphia The Hornets traded McDaniels to the 76ers on Thursday in a three-team deal that also included the Trail Blazers, Adrian Wojnarowski of ESPN reports.
Impact The 76ers will acquire second-round picks in 2024 and 2029 in the deal, while Portland receives Matisse Thybulle and Charlotte gets Svi Myhailiuk as well as second-round picks in 2023 and 2027. McDaniels averaged 10.6 points, 4.8 rebounds, 2.0 assists and 1.2 steals in 26.7 minutes across 56 games for the Hornets this season, but he could be in store for a smaller role in Philadelphia. He'll tentatively slot in as the primary backup at forward behind starters Tobias Harris and P.J. Tucker.

Impact McDaniels came from nowhere to score a season-high 26 points, only the third time he has scored more than 20 points this season. Impact McDaniels continues to play well as a starter, churning out another solid two-way performance. With Gordon Hayward (hamstring) and Kelly Oubre (hand) both sidelined, the path to minutes is reasonably clear right now, making McDaniels a viable 12-team asset. Oubre is set to miss at least another few weeks, while Hayward is seemingly always injured. All of this adds up to what should be a nice opportunity for McDaniels to prove himself.

However, the fourth-year player has been more than just a contributor on the defensive end of the court lately. McDaniels has scored in double digits in five straight games -- his longest streak of the season -- and has averaged 12.0 points, 6.0 boards, 1.6 assists, 1.4 threes and 1.0 steals over that stretch while shooting 52.4 percent from the floor.
