Released by Atlanta The Hawks waived Fernando on Saturday, Shams Charania of The Athletic reports.
Impact After spending just one full season with the club, Fernando will now look to sign with a new team after being waived by the Hawks. The 25-year-old was a non-factor in the first half of the 2023-24 regular-season, during which he averaged 4.0 points and 3.1 rebounds across 9.0 minutes in 18 games. However, after the All-Star break Fernando saw an uptick in playing time, and he averaged 7.8 points, 5.1 rebounds and 1.4 assists across 19.3 minutes in 27 appearances.
JULY 30, 2024 • ROTOWIRE
Contract guarantee date extended Fernando and the Hawks intend to push back the guarantee deadline on his contract to July 10, Lauren L. Williams of The Atlanta Journal-Constitution reports.
Impact The Hawks and Fernando decided on a similar move prior to last season, and ultimately the center's contract was guaranteed. If the club decides to guarantee his salary this season, Fernando is set to make $2.7 million this upcoming year. The 25-year-old was a non-factor in the first half of 2023-24; however, after the All-Star break he saw an uptick in minutes, during which he averaged 7.8 points, 5.1 rebounds and 1.4 assists across 19.3 minutes.

Back to bench for Play-In Fernando will come off the bench for Wednesday's Play-In Tournament game against the Bulls, Lauren L. Williams of The Atlanta Journal-Constitution reports.
Impact Fernando drew the start in Game 82 of the regular season but he'll retreat to the second unit with Clint Capela (rest) back in action. While it's assumed Atlanta will trim down their rotation, Fernando should see upwards of 20 minutes Wednesday.
APRIL 18, 2024 • ROTOWIRE
Hawks' Bruno Fernando looks to make impact in Play-In vs. the Bulls on Wednesday Fernando could, for the first time in his five-year career, play significant minutes in a postseason game Wednesday night.
APRIL 17, 2024 • AJC.COM
Reaches double figures in start Fernando contributed 12 points (3-5 FG, 6-6 FT), two rebounds and one assist over 21 minutes during Sunday's 157-115 loss to Indiana.
Impact Fernando got the starting nod with Clint Capela (rest) sitting out the regular-season finale, ending as one of four Atlanta starters and five players with a double-digit point total in a losing effort. Fernando started his second game of the season Sunday, his first that ended with 10 or more points. He rounds out the regular season by posting 11 double-digit scoring outings.
APRIL 14, 2024 • ROTOWIRE
Starting sans Capela Fernando will start Sunday's game against the Pacers, Dustin Dopirak of The Indianapolis Star reports.
Impact With Clint Capela (rest) sitting out the regular-season finale, Fernando will draw a spot start. In his only start this season (Feb. 14 versus Charlotte), Fernando posted six points, 12 rebounds, an assist and a block in 26 minutes.

Scores career-best 25 points Fernando posted 25 points (11-14 FG, 0-1 3Pt, 3-4 FT), six rebounds, one assist and one block over 26 minutes during Saturday's 132-91 victory over the Hornets.
Impact Fernando reached a new career-high scoring mark in this one, and the big man is certainly making the most of the opportunity with Onyeka Okongwu (toe) sidelined. However, this was a one-game outlier, and he's not expected to hover around the 20-point plateau -- let alone the 10-point mark -- off the bench going forward, as he remains a backup with no real shot at a starting role any time soon.

Subs Bruno Fernando, Garrison Mathews help Hawks down Hornets The Hawks finally beat the Hornets after falling to them twice earlier this season, beating them 132-91 Saturday night at State Farm Arena.

Stuffs stat sheet off bench Fernando had six points (3-5 FG), 11 rebounds, two assists, three blocks and two steals across 22 minutes during Sunday's 116-103 loss to the Pelicans.
Impact Fernando is not a player who is known for making a significant impact off the bench in fantasy formats, and he's probably on the wire in most leagues. Still, he certainly made his presence felt in this one, recording at least two tallies in every one of the five major categories while grabbing 11 boards -- the third time he pulled down double-digit boards across his last 10 games. His recent performances are worth monitoring, but he profiles as a streaming alternative for fantasy owners with depth issues at the center position in a best-case scenario.

Fails to score in 21 minutes Fernando closed with one point (0-1 FG, 1-2 FT), seven rebounds and two steals over 21 minutes during Friday's 99-92 victory over Memphis.
Impact Fernando played 21 minutes off the bench, yet failed to come up with a single point. Despite playing a consistent role behind Clint Capela, Fernando has been unable to turn minutes into production. He has been outside the top 200 over the past month, meaning only those in deeper formats should consider him a viable asset.
MARCH 9, 2024 • ROTOWIRE
Back to bench Fernando will return to a reserve role in Friday's game versus the Raptors, Brad Rowland of the Locked On Podcast Network reports.
Impact Fernando started at center in the Hawks' previous game with Clint Capela (adductor) sidelined. However, the former is slated to return to the starting lineup, thus resulting in Fernando back to his usual role off the bench.
FEBRUARY 24, 2024 • ROTOWIRE
Starting Wednesday Fernando is in the starting lineup for Wednesday's matchup with Charlotte, Sam Perley of the Hornets' official site reports.
Impact With both Clint Capela (adductor) and Onyeka Okongwu (toe) sidelined, Fernando will be thrust into the starting lineup and should get all the run he can handle. He has some upside as a shot-blocker, so Fernando could be someone to think about streaming in deep leagues. Joining him in the first unit Wednesday evening will be Trae Young, Dejounte Murray, Saddiq Bey and Jalen Johnson.
FEBRUARY 14, 2024 • ROTOWIRE
Available for Monday's game Fernando (illness) is available for Monday's game against the Bulls.
Impact Fernando was probable for Monday's matchup and has officially been cleared to return from his one-game absence. Over his last three appearances, he's averaged 8.0 points and 3.7 rebounds in 13.3 minutes per game.
FEBRUARY 12, 2024 • ROTOWIRE
Still battling illness Fernando (illness) is questionable for Monday's game against Chicago.
Impact Fernando is at risk of missing his second consecutive game due to an illness. Clint Capela (groin) has already been ruled out for Monday's contest, which would leave Onyeka Okongwu as the lone traditional center available if Fernando is unable to suit up.
FEBRUARY 11, 2024 • ROTOWIRE
Out due to illness Fernando (illness) will not play in Saturday's game against Houston.
Impact Fernando has been picking up the backup center minutes recently with Clint Capela (thigh) out, averaging 13.3 minutes over his past three games. The Hawks are likely to utilize some smaller lineups with Fernando sidelined.
FEBRUARY 10, 2024 • ROTOWIRE
Joins rotation Monday Fernando recorded seven points (3-6 FG, 1-3 3Pt), four rebounds, two blocks and one assist in 14 minutes off the bench in Monday's 149-144 loss to the Clippers.
Impact Fernando had missed four consecutive games with left lower back spasms before he was cleared for action over the weekend. He didn't log any minutes in either of the Hawks' subsequent two contests due to his status as a non-rotation player, but Fernando entered the mix Monday with Atlanta in need of a new backup center while Onyeka Okongwu moved into the starting five to replace the injured Clint Capela (adductor). The Hawks don't plan to re-evaluate Capela until at least next weekend or early next week, so Fernando looks as though he'll be in for a multi-game run as the backup center. Fernando's minutes will likely sit in the teens in most contests, but he could have some appeal as a streaming option for traditional big-man statistics (field-goal percentage, rebounds and blocks) in deeper leagues.
FEBRUARY 6, 2024 • ROTOWIRE
Set to return Friday Fernando isn't on the injury report for Friday's game versus the Suns.
Impact Fernando will return to action Friday after missing the previous five games with back spasms. The 25-year-old big man will likely compete for depth minutes in Atlanta's frontcourt.
FEBRUARY 1, 2024 • ROTOWIRE
Out again Tuesday Fernando (back) has been ruled out for Tuesday's game against the Lakers, Brad Rowland of the Locked On Podcast Network reports.
Impact Tuesday night will mark Fernando's fifth consecutive missed game due to injury, and he has missed eight out of his last nine. In the 13 games he has appeared in this season, Fernando has averaged 2.9 points, 2.0 rebounds, 0.4 blocks, 0.3 assists and 0.2 steals through 6.5 minutes.
JANUARY 29, 2024 • ROTOWIRE
Still out Fernando (back) won't play in Sunday's game versus the Raptors, Brad Rowland of the Locked On Podcast Network reports.
Impact Fernando will miss his fourth straight game Sunday due to back spasms. His next chance to suit up is Tuesday's matchup with the Lakers.
JANUARY 27, 2024 • ROTOWIRE
Ruled out Friday Fernando (back) has been ruled out for Friday's game against the Mavericks.
Impact Fernando's ongoing absence shouldn't impact the rotation, as Clint Capela and Onyeka Okongwu are both available. Fernando's next chance to suit up will come Sunday versus the Raptors.
JANUARY 26, 2024 • ROTOWIRE
Game-time call for Friday Fernando (back) is questionable for Friday's game against the Mavericks.
Impact Fernando missed Wednesday's game against the Warriors due to back spasms, and his availability remains in doubt for Friday's matchup. It shouldn't impact Atlanta's rotation much if he's unable to go.
