Impact After starting 19th on the grid, the veteran driver would actually have a strong race. Perez described the performance as Cadillac's best effort since joining F1. He would out-pace teammate, Valtteri Bottas and take advantage of the lap 22 safety car to pit and grab some track position. Down the stretch Perez would hold his ground and the lead lap which was commendable. He would promote one spot late due to Alex Albon's late issues and finish a respectable 17th-place in the Japanese Grand Prix.
