P2 in Montreal Verstappen finished second in the Canadian Grand Prix Formula 1 race at Circuit Gilles-Villeneuve on Sunday afternoon.
Impact Verstappen started on the outside pole and he was unable to beat George Russell for the lead off the mark. The Red Bull Racing star would settle into P2 and ride there until his lap 12 pit stop and attempt to undercut Russell. It wouldn't work as Russell would pit one lap later. Verstappen would hold down second-place and face some heated challenges from Kimi Antonelli later in the grand prix but the world champion would hold steady and collect second-place as the race ended under the safety car. It was Verstappen's fifth podium of the season.

Impact Verstappen was in an interesting strategic matchup with both McLaren drivers for much of the race, as he employed a three-stop strategy as opposed to two for the Papaya. He was going to be on the losing end of that battle, but he still looked to be set for a return to the podium. That changed when Kimi Antonelli suffered an engine failure, resulting in a safety car that bunched up the field and also caused most teams to pit at least one of their drivers. Verstappen was forced to utilize hard tires, his only set remaining, putting him at a disadvantage relative to both Charles Leclerc and George Russell. In a battle with the latter, Verstappen was asked to give back P4 in the final laps after gaining an advantage by going off track, but Verstappen instead seemingly intentionally drove into the side of the Mercedes and incurred a 10-second penalty that resulted in his worst finish of the year.
