Impact Kansas has been one of Truex's best tracks throughout his career. He was strong again on Sunday, although he never lead a lap. Truex hung around the middle of the top-10 for most of the day, but charged late when some of the leaders were close on fuel. He was closing on leader Denny Hamlin in a hurry before Kyle Busch spun and brought out a caution with seven laps to go. Everyone elected to pit to put on fresh tires, but the majority of cars on the lead lap took just two tires, while crew chief James Small took four. It put Truex back in ninth place for the GWC restart and it looked like the No. 19 team was going to have another race get away. The four tires worked early and Truex was able to dice his way back up to third coming off turn two for the final time. Chase Elliott got a good run and ducked to the inside of Truex in turn three while the leaders of Kyle Larson and Chris Buescher were door-to-door as well going up the track. Truex hit the wall off of turn four or else he might have had enough steam to challenge what ended up being the closest finish in NASCAR history (0.001 seconds) between Larson and Buescher. In the end it was a fourth place finish for Truex who sits 29 points back of Larson in the standings in second place with four top-five's. He will look for his first win of the year at Darlington next week.
