Impact Perez would have a difficult qualifying session and it would be compounded by the team changing suspension components afterward. That would give the Cadillac veteran a pit lane start for Sunday's race in Hungary. The opening stint would be brutal and Perez would slide all over the track, but it would seemingly improve during his second stint. On lap 51 something would break in his front-left suspension and parts would flap about in the wind. Perez would limp the car back to the pits and retire due to a suspension failure.

Suspension Failure Perez suffered a suspension failure and finished 21st in the Belgian Grand Prix Formula 1 race at the Spa-Francorchamps Circuit on Sunday afternoon.

Impact Perez would start strong and make some positions from the lights out. His Cadillac would strike a piece of debris and lose a mirror when George Russell's Mercedes would go off track and slide into the gravel. Perez would stalk Esteban Ocon after the early safety car period ended, but he would suffer a suspension failure on lap 13 and would have to retire his car early. It was a disappointing result for the veteran driver after showing good early-race pace.

Good Pace in British GP Perez finished 14th in the British Grand Prix Formula 1 race at the Silverstone Circuit on Sunday afternoon.

Impact The veteran Cadillac driver would start P20 on the grid and make good gains in the opening laps. Perez would report good pace from the car and improved drivability. He would use that speed to battle with both Haas drivers most of the day and stay well ahead of the Aston Martin teams. Perez would take the checkered flag in 14th-place for a respectable finish and some critical data collection.

Early Retirement in Spielberg Bottas suffered brake overheating issues and finished 21st in the Austrian Grand Prix Formula 1 race at the Red Bull Ring in Spielberg on Sunday afternoon.

Impact Just two laps after his teammate's brake fire and early retirement, Perez would suffer a similar fate. He would have a good start to the race and would be in an active battle with Alex Albon when his Cadillac's brakes began to overheat. Smoke would begin to enter his cockpit on lap 4 and he would be forced to pit road to retire the car. It was a double DNF day for Cadillac and disappointing result for Perez as he continues to push this team for better reliability.

P14 in Barcelona Perez finished 14th in the Barcelona-Catalunya Grand Prix F1 race at Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya on Sunday.

Impact The Cadillac F1 veteran would utilize a two-stop pit strategy after qualifying 19th on the starting grid. Perez would use the long stints to gather data and help the team to improve the car over longer runs. He would only run as high as 17th most of the afternoon, stuck behind Esteban Ocon. With some late-race retirements and a stroke of luck, Perez would move up to 14th-place by the checkered flag and continue to help Cadillac gather data and improve their program.

JUNE 16 • ROTOWIRE

Grid Alignment Penalty Perez finished 15th in the Monaco Grand Prix Formula 1 race at The Circuit de Monaco on Sunday afternoon.

Impact The Cadillac F1 veteran started 18th on the grid and was able to make good ground early. However, a lap 4 pit stop would put him back in the field. Perez would battle his way forward to P11 late in the race and challenge for Cadillac's first-ever points in an F1 race. However, he would line up incorrectly on the standing restart of lap 68 and the stewards would hit Perez with a 10-second penalty, dropping him to P15 after the checkered flag. It was an unfortunate result after a great day-long effort in Monaco.

JUNE 9 • ROTOWIRE

Suspension Failure Perez finished 17th in the Canadian Grand Prix Formula 1 race at Circuit Gilles Villeneuve on Sunday afternoon.

Impact Perez would start the race on intermediate tyres, which with the quickly drying track conditions would be a strategic blunder. He would have to duck onto pit lane at lap 2 to switch for slick tyres. That would mire Perez deep in the field without much hope of moving forward. His day would come to an end abruptly on lap 42 while braking in the chicane his front right suspension would catastrophically fail, spreading debris all over the race track. The car would be hopelessly crippled and Perez would be hit with the final retirement of the day and P17 for the grand prix.

P16 in Miami GP Perez finished 16th in the Miami Grand Prix Formula 1 race at the Miami International Autodrome on Sunday afternoon.

Impact The veteran Cadillac driver would stat 20th on the grid and look to make headway as soon as possible. Perez would climb up to P17 in the chaos of the opening laps and that would help him get a forward foothold. He ran a long opening stint and pitted on lap 29. Perez would engage in a good battle with Fernando Alonso late in the race but would yield that spot to the Aston Martin veteran. He would end up holding off Lance Stroll down the stretch to secure P16 in Miami.

MAY 5 • ROTOWIRE

Lead Lap Finish Perez finished 17th in the Japanese Grand Prix Formula 1 race at the Suzuka Circuit on Sunday.

Impact After starting 19th on the grid, the veteran driver would actually have a strong race. Perez described the performance as Cadillac's best effort since joining F1. He would out-pace teammate, Valtteri Bottas and take advantage of the lap 22 safety car to pit and grab some track position. Down the stretch Perez would hold his ground and the lead lap which was commendable. He would promote one spot late due to Alex Albon's late issues and finish a respectable 17th-place in the Japanese Grand Prix.

MARCH 31 • ROTOWIRE

Battle with Liam Lawson Perez finished 16th in the Australian Grand Prix Formula 1 race at the Albert Park Circuit on Sunday.

Impact A Q1 exit would mean Perez would line up 18th on the starting grid for his Cadillac debut. He would struggle with car balance and make the fastest laps possible due to those struggles. Perez would become engaged in a battle with Liam Lawson and one point as the two would make contact for position. No penalties were forthcoming and Lawson would eventually overtake the Cadillac veteran. Perez would end up 3 laps down to the leaders by the checkered flag, but would count the outing a "win" for the team's first grand prix.

MARCH 10 • ROTOWIRE

Signs with Cadillac Cadillac have signed Grand Prix winners Perez and Valtteri Bottas to be their drivers when the team joins the Formula 1 grid for the first time in 2026.

Impact What has been anticipated for a couple weeks was made official by the new F1 team Tuesday. Perez will join the American squad and backed by General Motors. The new team opted for experience over youth with their driver signings and Perez has plenty of it. With 281 Formula 1 starts and six grand prix victories, Cadillac couldn't ask for a more seasoned driver to head up its launch and joining the grid in 2026.
