Loses out to Antonelli again Russell finished fourth in the Miami Grand Prix F1 race at Miami International Autodrome on Sunday.
Impact Russell was out-paced by Mercedes teammate Kimi Antonelli for most of the weekend, including in both qualifying sessions. Russell managed to beat Antonelli in the sprint race due to the latter suffering a penalty, though he couldn't keep pace during the grand prix Sunday. Russell now sits at a 20-point deficit to his teammate for the season, a disappointing start to a year that began with high expectations.

Fourth in Japan Russell finished fourth in the Japanese Grand Prix F1 race at Suzuka Circuit on Sunday.
Impact The Mercedes remained the quickest car on the grid, though Russell was overshadowed by teammate Kimi Antonelli. Russell started second on the grid after Antonelli out-qualified him by nearly three-tenths of a second, and he struggled at the start of the race to slip to fourth. Russell fought his way back to second in the early stages of the race, only to slip back to fourth once again after pitting immediately before a safety car was deployed. Though that was bad luck, Russell was ultimately unable to generate the pace necessary to pass Charles Leclerc to reach the podium.

Fast FP1 in Japan Russell set the pace in the first practice session for the Japanese Grand Prix as he narrowly beat his Mercedes team mate Kimi Antonelli, with reigning World Champion Lando Norris...
Impact Sunny but cool conditions would greet the drivers for this opening session at the Suzuka Circuit. There would be a lot of data gathering early in the hour so the lap times would not begin to tumble until late. Mercedes would once again show they're the class of the early-season with Russell going 1:31.665 to edge Antonelli by just two-hundredths. The Mercedes duo were one- and two-tenths ahead of the McLaren pair. Russell once again looks like the driver to beat this weekend in Japan.
MARCH 27 • ROTOWIRE
Strong weekend in China Russell finished second in the Chinese Grand Prix F1 race at Shanghai International Circuit on Sunday.
Impact Russell continued his dominant start to the season in the early portions of the weekend, claiming both the sprint pole and victory. He hit some bad luck in qualifying for the race, reaching Q3 only to suffer an electrical issue that limited him to just one flying lap to conclude the session. Russell started the race behind Mercedes teammate Kimi Antonelli as a result, and a mid-race scrap with both Ferrari drivers ended any chance of victory for Russell. Nevertheless, Russell comes away with a solid haul of points from the weekend and has a modest four-point lead over Antonelli in the early Drivers' Championship standings.

Claims Sprint Pole Russell claimed Sprint Qualifying pole position at the Chinese Grand Prix, as Kimi Antonelli ensured Mercedes locked out the front row in Shanghai, Formula1.com reports.
Impact Russell would set the fastest lap in all three segments of Sprint Qualifying on the Shanghai International Circuit. His lap of 1:31.520 in SQ3 would be the best so far of the weekend. Russell would be three-tenths clear of Antonelli and six-tenths clear of Norris. The Mercedes star looks poised to dominate Saturday's Sprint in China.

Impact Mercedes once again this weekend would demonstrate they have the dominant pace early into this new season. Russell would lead on mediums and then again later in session on softs. His lap of 1:32.741 would be two-tenths clear of Antonelli and a half-second clear of Norris. Russell looks like a strong candidate to dominate both the sprint and grand prix this weekend at the Shanghai International Circuit.

Leclerc: Ferrari's Australian GP pit-stop gamble was a 'conscious choice'

Wins Australian Grand Prix Russell claimed victory in the 2026 season-opening Australian Grand Prix, the Briton leading team mate Kimi Antonelli to secure a Mercedes 1-2 ahead of the Ferrari duo in an action...
Impact An early battle with Charles Leclerc would add some excitement to the opening laps of this grand prix. Russell would eventually win out and take control. A game of pit strategy would then play out against the Ferraris. Russell and Antonelli would run long to the end of the race and Russell would take the checkered flag 2.9-seconds ahead of his teammate. It was his first victory of the season and sixth-career win.

Grabs Australia Pole Russell sealed pole position for the first race of the season in Australia, beating Kimi Antonelli and Isack Hadjar's efforts while Max Verstappen suffered an unexpected early exit...
Impact In a qualifying session that would see Verstappen crash out, Russell would dominate each of the three segments. His Mercedes would be the clear front runner and only his teammate Antonelli could field a close challenge. Russell would post a 1:18.518 in Q3 and the lap would hold up by three-tenths over Antonelli. The Mercedes star will start P1 Sunday at the Albert Park Circuit, and have the inside track on victory.

Fast Final Practice Russell ended the third and final practice session of the Australian Grand Prix on top, the Mercedes driver going fastest in a disrupted hour that saw his team mate Kimi Antonelli...
Impact This final practice ahead of pole qualifying at the Albert Park Circuit would offer a little bit of everything. The typical mechanical bugaboos would pop up as well as a handful of off-course excursions as drivers still come to grips with the new regs. After a late-session crash by Antonelli, Russell would turn the fastest lap of the practice when action resumed. HIs lap of 1:19.053 would blow away the field and be six-tenths faster than Lewis Hamilton. The Mercedes star looks like a good bet for pole position later Saturday in Australia.

Impact Mercedes once again showed off their top pace in this opening day of the second Bahrain test. Kimi Antonelli should good speed in the morning session and Russell stepped in during the afternoon to take things up a notch. He would log a lap of 1:33.739 to edge Piastri for the fastest lap of the day and almost seven-tenths faster than Antonelli from the morning run. Russell is poised to have a career-best season in 2026.

Fifth place to close season Russell finished fifth at the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix F1 race at Yas Marina Circuit on Sunday.
Impact Russell found himself in a familiar position, as he began the race fourth on the grid behind only the three title contenders. He gave way to Charles Leclerc at the start of the grand prix but held his position from there. Russell finished a distant fourth in the Drivers' standings, but he regularly got the most out of his Mercedes throughout the season.

Fast Final Practice Russell stormed to the top of the timesheets in the final practice session for the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix, marginally leading Lando Norris and Max Verstappen ahead of an all-importan...
Impact The good pace in recent weeks of Mercedes showed during FP3 at the Yas Marina Circuit. Russell was able to find a small advantage and turn a lap of 1:23.334 on soft tyres. He would edge Norris by just 0.004-seconds to top the timing sheets in this final practice ahead of pole qualifying. Russell looks like a decent contender to challenge the podium this weekend in Abu Dhabi.

Uneven weekend Russell finished sixth in the Qatar Grand Prix F1 race at Lusail International Circuit on Sunday.
Impact Russell looked to be in for a huge weekend, as he both qualified and finished second in the sprint. He then qualified fourth for the grand prix, but within 0.3 seconds of pole. However, things went downhill from there, as he slipped three positions on the opening lap, ultimately dooming him to a disappointing finish.Russell has now finsihed sixth or worse in three of his last five races.
DECEMBER 3, 2025 • ROTOWIRE
Runner-up Finish in Vegas Russell finished second in the Las Vegas Grand Prix Formula 1 race at the Las Vegas Strip Circuit on Saturday night.
Impact Russell would start P4 on the grid and get around Carlos Sainz and Land Norris in the wildness of the opening lap. Those overtakes would cement the Mercedes star in P2 up until his lone pit stop on lap 17. The undercut strategy would work well and keep Russell entrenched in P2 until Norris would run him down late in the grand prix to push him back to P3. However, a post-race disqualification of Norris would promote Russell back to P2 after the event. It was a strong performance under the lights in Las Vegas for the veteran driver.

Tops FP3 in Las Vegas Russell set the pace during third and final practice at the Las Vegas Grand Prix, the Mercedes driver leading the way in a session that featured tricky conditions - while both McLa...
Impact In this final tune up ahead of pole qualifying, the track conditions would be the dominant story line as rain showers would put moisture down on the track prior to the session. As grip would improve the lap times would drop. Max Verstappen would look good early on but it would be Russell that would jump to the top of the charts with a late flyer. His lap of 1:34.054 would edge the Red Bull Racing star by two-tenths. Russell looks like he has the pace to challenge the podium in Las Vegas.

Strong showing in Brazil Russell finished fourth at the Brazilian Grand Prix F1 race at Autodromo Jose Carlos Pace on Sunday.
Impact Russell was solid all weekend, finishing third in the sprint and fourth in the full race. The only downside was that he was beaten by teammate Kimi Antonelli on each occasion, a rare occurrence this season. Nevertheless, Russell returned to the top five for the first time since his win at the Singapore Grand Prix.
NOVEMBER 11, 2025 • ROTOWIRE
Frustrating Mexican GP Russell finished seventh in the Mexico City Grand Prix F1 race at Autodromo Hermanos Rodriguez on Sunday.
Impact Russell continued to pump in strong qualifying times, and he started fifth or better on the grid for the seventh straight grand prix. He had a frustrating race, initially being forced off the road on the first lap, costing him two positions. Russell then felt that he was held up behind his teammate Kimi Antonelli too long to allow him to fight for a podium finish. Even after he was let by his teammate via team order, Russell wasn't able to make an impression on the rest of the field. The end result was his worst finish since the British Grand Prix.

Fifth in Austin Russell finished sixth in the United States Grand Prix F1 race at Circuit of the Americas on Sunday.
Impact The Mercedes didn't carry over its pace from Singapore, where Russell won in relatively commanding fashion. Instead, he was stuck behind both McLaren, Ferrari and Red Bull on raw pace at various points in the weekend. Russell finished second in the sprint, though that was a flattering result with both McLarens crashing on the opening turn. He dropped from fourth to sixth in the opening lap of the race on Sunday, marking his worst finish since the British Grand Prix.
