Intermediate tyres were a good decision and he would vault past Max Verstappen and into the lead in the wet conditions. Antonelli would turn in a lap of 1:36.302 and edge Verstappen by nearly three-tenths. Teammate, George Russell, would not be far behind slotting P4 in this FP3. Antonelli is looking to return to victory lane after a somewhat disappointing P5 last time out in Baku.

Fifth at Baku after qualfying mistake Antonelli finished fifth at the Azerbaijan Grand Prix F1 race at Baku City Circuit on Saturday.

Impact Antonelli made an uncharacteristic mistake in qualifiyng, costing him the chance to run a fast lap in Q2. He started 16th on the grid as a result, and he then moved steadily up the grid. He benefitted from late-race chaos that saw some of the drivers ahead of him collected in a wreck, but Antonelli managed to limit the damage of his mistake. Even with George Russell taking home the win, Antonelli takes a 66-point lead into the Bahrain Grand Prix.

Qualifying Crash at Baku Antonelli would crash during qualifying for the Azerbaijan Grand Prix Formula 1 race at the Baku Circuit on Friday afternoon.

Impact The championship standings leader would encounter problems early in qualifying on the Baku circuit. Antonelli would misjudge the entry to turn 1 during Q1 and clip the inside wall hard with his front left wheel. It would cause extensive damage to his Mercedes but he would stay underway in an attempt to get his injured car back to pit lane.
