INJURIES

Home finally sweet for Kansas City Royals as Greinke collects first victory of season The Royals top the Orioles 6-0 with solid efforts from a pitching staff led by starter Zack Greinke and a lineup that collected 13 hits.
MAY 4, 2023 • KANSASCITY.COM
Royals' Zack Greinke nears milestone only four others have reached in MLB history With three specific strikeouts, the Royals pitcher can join Nolan Ryan, Randy Johnson, Greg Maddux and Roger Clemens.

Takes fourth loss of season Greinke (0-4) took the loss Thursday, allowing seven runs on eight hits and two walks over 3.2 innings against the Twins. He struck out three.
Impact Greinke has had a rough start to the season, posting a 6.10 ERA and 1.45 ERA through six starts so far this year. The former Astro has allowed multiple runs in five of those appearances, and he's in danger of having the worst season of his career if he doesn't improve soon. The 39-year-old is tentatively slated to face the Orioles at home in his next start.

Takes no-decision against ex-club Greinke allowed four runs on seven hits and no walks over five innings against the Angels on Saturday. He struck out two batters and didn't factor in the decision.
Impact Greinke tossed two scoreless frames before giving up a run in the third. He yielded a solo homer to Hunter Renfroe in the fourth inning and two-run shot to Mike Trout in the fifth before departing. The veteran hurler didn't allow any long balls in his first two starts this season but has served up up five homers in three games since. He's given Kansas City decent depth by going at least five frames in each of his five starts, but his 0-3 record and 4.61 ERA are far from inspiring.
APRIL 23, 2023 • ROTOWIRE
Doesn't factor into decision Greinke allowed four runs on four hits while striking out six with one walk Tuesday against the Royals, but he didn't factor into the decision.
Impact Greinke pitched six efficient innings and held the potent Atlanta offense to only four hits; however, he was tagged for three runs in the third inning and didn't factor into the decision. Despite having a solid 4.03 ERA and 17:4 K:BB over 22.1 innings pitched, the 39-year-old veteran is still winless with an 0-3 record in 2023. With the Royals ranking at the bottom of the league in offensive efficiency, it may be difficult for their starting rotation to earn wins regularly. Still, Greinke will aim to achieve his first win in his next start, scheduled tentatively for the upcoming series with the Angels.

Grissom RBI, Albies HR push Braves past Royals 5-4

Vaughn Grissom hit a tiebreaking single in the ninth inning, Ozzie Albies homered and the Atlanta Braves beat the Kansas City Royals 5-4
APRIL 16, 2023
Takes loss against Texas Greinke fell to 0-3 with a loss against the Rangers on Monday. He allowed four runs (three earned) on six hits and one walk while striking out three batters over five innings.
Impact Though Greinke lost his first two starts of the campaign, he pitched quite well, allowing just three runs over 11.1 combined innings. The veteran didn't fare as well Monday, but he kept the Royals competitive before the team's bullpen fell apart following his departure. Greinke was stung by a pair of Rangers homers -- the first two long balls he has given up this season -- and he struck out a season-low three batters. He still has a solid 3.31 ERA through three outings, but he may not rack up many victories this season while pitching for a Kansas City club that thus far has displayed one of MLB's worst offenses.

Pitches well but takes loss Greinke (0-2) took the loss against Toronto on Wednesday, pitching six innings and allowing one run on seven hits and one walk while striking out four batters.
Impact Greinke scattered seven singles in the outing, and he held the Blue Jays scoreless until the sixth inning. That was enough for Toronto to claim the win, however, as Kansas City's offense managed just two hits and no runs. Greinke fell to 0-2 with the defeat, but he's pitched well in his first two starts of the campaign. The veteran has allowed three runs while posting an 8:2 K:BB over his first 11.1 frames.

Strong Opening Day start Greinke (0-1) allowed two earned runs on six hits and one walk while striking out four across 5.1 innings to take the loss Thursday against the Twins.
Impact Greinke kept pace with his counterpart Pablo Lopez, as he held the Twins scoreless until the top of the sixth inning. As has been the case in recent years, Greinke's success came from his ability to induce soft contact rather than generate swings and misses. That will lead to more volatile outcomes, but he managed a respectable 3.68 ERA and 1.34 WHIP across 137 innings in 2022 and began the new campaign in good form as well.

Picked for Opening Day start Greinke was announced as the Royals' Opening Day starter Friday, Anne Rogers of MLB.com reports.
Impact Brady Singer also would have made sense, but Greinke's seniority rules here as he'll make his seventh career Opening Day start, including his third with Kansas City. He'll face off against the Twins on March 30 at Kauffmann Stadium.

MARCH 20, 2023 • KANSASCITY.COM
Pitches well Tuesday Greinke allowed a run on one hit and struck out seven over four innings in Tuesday's Cactus League loss to the Reds.
Impact Greinke appears to be ramping up just fine this spring. The run he allowed Tuesday was his second of the spring, and it came on a solo home run by Tyler Stephenson. Greinke has added an 11:1 K:BB across nine Cactus League innings. He should get at least two more appearances before lining up to pitch in the Royals' first series of the season.

Royals, A's proving MLB teams can be both buyers and sellers
Back with Kansas City Greinke agreed Monday with the Royals on a one-year contract, Bob Fescoe of 610 Sports Kansas City reports.
Impact The deal will pay him $8-to-10 million with the chance for more with performance incentives, according to Mark Feinsand of MLB.com. Greinke returns to the Royals after a 2022 season in which he went 4-9 with a 3.68 ERA and 73:27 K:BB over 137 innings in 26 starts. The 39-year-old right-hander will assuredly be a part of the Kansas City rotation, but his inability to miss bats at this stage of his career renders him little more than a risky streaming option for the 2023 campaign in the majority of fantasy formats.
