Surrenders seven runs in loss
Gallen (1-4) took the loss against Texas on Tuesday, tossing 4.2 innings during which he allowed seven runs on seven hits and two walks while striking out four batters.
Impact
Gallen struggled from the outset, serving up a solo homer to Joc Pederson in the first inning. He trailed 3-0 entering the fifth, then got just two outs in that frame while being charged with four more runs. Gallen managed just six whiffs among his 95 pitches and has now given up a combined 17 runs over his past three starts spanning 14.1 innings. That has pushed his season ERA up to an ugly 5.65.

Falls to 1-3
Gallen (1-3) took the loss against Pittsburgh on Thursday, pitching six innings during which he gave up four runs on six hits and two walks while striking out five batters.
Impact
Gallen served up a solo homer to the second batter he faced in the game but was able to make it through four frames with just that one run on his ledger. However, the veteran struggled late in his outing, allowing four straight batters to reach with two outs in the fifth frame to yield two runs before giving up another run on a solo homer in the sixth. Gallen was at least better than in his previous start, when he gave up six runs over 3.2 innings against the Cubs, but he's now at a mediocre 4.70 ERA with just one victory through eight starts on the season.

Mauled by Cubs
Gallen (1-2) took the loss Friday, coughing up six runs on seven hits and three walks over 3.2 innings as the Diamondbacks were downed 6-5 by the Cubs. He struck out three.
Impact
Chicago ambushed the right-hander for three runs in the first inning, and another three-spot in the fourth chased Gallen from the game after 95 pitches (57 strikes). The performance ended a stretch of five straight starts in which he'd given up three runs or fewer, and Gallen will take a 4.45 ERA, 1.52 WHIP and 20:10 K:BB through 32.1 innings into his next outing, which lines up to come at home next week against the Pirates.

Cleared to start Friday
The Diamondbacks list Gallen (shoulder) as their starting pitcher for Friday's game against the Cubs, Jack Sommers of SI.com reports.
Impact
Gallen had to be removed from his last outing after he was struck in the right shoulder by a comebacker, but he threw a bullpen session Wednesday without issue and will not have to miss a return in the rotation. The veteran right-hander should be ready for a normal workload at Wrigley Field.

Gallen (shoulder) is expected to throw a bullpen session Wednesday, Steve Gilbert of MLB.com reports.
Impact
Gallen showed up at the ballpark Monday and played catch two days after being removed from Saturday's start. The right-hander expects to make his next start projected for Friday on the road against the Cubs.

Should make next start
Manager Torey Lovullo said Sunday that Gallen (shoulder) was feeling batter, and the club is "encouraged" the right-hander will make his next turn through the rotation, Nick Piecor...
Impact
Gallen was removed from his start against the Padres on Saturday after being hit by a comebacker on his throwing shoulder, ending his day after three scoreless frames. The 30-year-old was diagnosed with a contusion, and it appears he'll be able to take the mound for his next turn through the rotation this weekend against the Cubs. Gallen's status should receive more clarity in the next day or two, which is when he would typically throw his between-starts bullpen session.

Exits game with shoulder injury
Gallen was removed from Saturday's start against the Padres due to a right shoulder contusion, Jody Jackson of Bally Sports Arizona reports.
Impact
Gallen was hit by a comebacker to the shoulder earlier in the game, and while he initially stayed in the game, the decision was to made to remove the 30-year-old at the end of the third inning. He finished his outing having allowed one hit and zero walks while striking out three across three scoreless innings. The Diamondbacks should have an update on Gallen's injury once he undergoes more tests. If the injury isn't a long-term concern, then Gallen could make his next start as scheduled, which is next weekend on the road against the Cubs.

Works around traffic in no-decision
Gallen took a no-decision Saturday against the Blue Jays, allowing two runs on nine hits and no walks in 5.2 innings. He struck out three.
Impact
Gallen was very aggressive in attacking the zone Saturday perhaps to a fault, considering he gave up a season-high nine hits while pouring in 63 of his 88 pitches for strikes. Although the veteran right-hander has managed to limit the damage while posting a 3.51 ERA on the year, he hasn't been particularly effective at preventing traffic while logging a 1.48 WHIP over his first 25.2 innings. Gallen has also fanned fewer than five in four of his first five starts, so he'll be looking for more punchouts his next time out versus San Diego.
