Optioned to Buffalo The Blue Jays optioned Pinango to Triple-A Buffalo on Saturday.

Impact Pinango impressed during his first stint in the majors, going 11-for-26 (.423) with four RBI and a run scored in 10 games. Despite his strong performance, he'll be pushed off the active roster by Addison Barger's (ankle) return from the injured list. If Toronto's outfield depth is tested again later in the year, Pinango would likely be one of the top candidates to rejoin the big club.

Impact Getting a second straight look in the leadoff spot against a right-hander pitcher, in this case Nick Martinez, Pinango produced his first career extra-base hit among his three knocks. The 23-year-old rookie has come flying off the gates since his promotion from Triple-A Buffalo, going 9-for-18 in his first seven big-league games, and he could continue to fill a strong-side platoon role as long as he's raking. The Toronto outfield/DH picture is about to get a lot more crowded, however, with George Springer (toe) expected back in the starting nine Tuesday and Addison Barger (ankles) set to come off the IL by this weekend.

Impact Pinango got off to a nice start with Triple-A Buffalo this season, posting an .858 OPS with three homers, 13 RBI and two stolen bases over his first 22 games. He was summoned to the big-league club for the first time Saturday after Nathan Lukes (hamstring) was placed on the injured list. Pinango will get his first chance to show off his skill set with the Blue Jays on Sunday, and he'll be initially facing off against Cleveland starter Slade Cecconi.

As a left-field-only prospect, there's significant pressure on Pinango to make an offensive impact, and he had a strong showing in a repeat of Double-A this year (.298/.406/.522 slash line, 169 wRC+). Pinango may be added to the 40-man roster this offseason to protect him from the Rule 5 draft.
