Impact Abreu entered camp as the favorite to become the primary starter in right field, but the outfielder is 4-for-36 with 16 strikeouts in Grapefruit League action. That might not be an issue for an established major-leaguer, but Abreu has just 28 games worth of MLB experience. Additionally, Rob Refsnyder's fractured toe (four-to-six weeks) and Cedanne Rafaela's strong spring could be reshaping the outfield.

Impact Rob Refsnyder, Ceddanne Rafaela and Adam Duvall will start across the outfield for the Red Sox as they take on left-hander John Means. Abreu has drawn only seven plate appearances versus lefties since being promoted to Boston in August.

Impact The Red Sox made what looked like a blowout early into a fun affair. Abreu's two-run double in the fifth inning followed Enmanuel Valdez's three-run home run in the fourth, cutting the Rays' early seven-run lead to 7-5. Both Abreu and Valdez, who were acquired from the Astros last season in exchange for Christian Vazquez, have gotten their first tastes of the majors in 2023. Abreu made a second consecutive start after missing a handful of games last week dur to a hand injury. He's been a bright spot since being called up in late August, posting a .371/.435/.565 line in 23 games.

Impact The 24-year-old has been held out of the starting nine since Sept. 16 with a hand injury, but he'll rejoin the lineup for Sunday's series finale versus Chicago. Abreu has a .364/.435/.509 slash line with a homer, three steals, 10 RBI and eight runs in 62 plate appearances since making his MLB debut Aug. 22.

Impact Abreu injured his left hand when he crashed into the outfield wall while trying to catch Matt Chapman's walk-off triple on Sunday in Toronto. The hand was heavily bandaged after the game, but those bandages have since been removed and the hope is he'll be available as soon as Tuesday. "He's day to day," Red Sox manager Alex Cora said Monday. "He's not starting today and we'll try to stay away from him today, and hopefully he'll be back tomorrow. He's gonna see the doctor soon and then we'll go from there."

Tallies four hits in twin bill Abreu went 4-for-6 with a run, two RBI, a stolen base and a walk across both games of a doubleheader split with the Yankees on Thursday.

Impact Abreu collected three hits in the matinee, including a first-inning single that plated the first run of the game.
