'Unexpected' Willie Calhoun channels Aaron Judge to lift Yankees over Red Sox

Hits another long ball Calhoun went 1-for-3 with a solo home run in Saturday's 3-1 win over the Red Sox.

Impact Calhoun has two homers and a double over his last three games, though that comes just after he endured an 0-for-10 skid. With Aaron Judge (toe) sidelined, Calhoun is seeing somewhat steady playing time of late, and he's starting to make the most of it. The outfielder is at a .246/.316/.426 slash line with five homers, 16 RBI, 16 runs scored and seven doubles over 136 plate appearances this year. He should be a fixture in the lineup versus right-handed pitchers, but the Yankees have yet to face a southpaw since Judge landed on the injured list.

Productive in twin bill Calhoun went 3-for-8 with a home run, a double, two total runs and three total RBI across both games of a doubleheader against the White Sox on Thursday.

Impact Calhoun led off both games of the twin bill for New York, starting in right field in the matinee and at DH in the nightcap. He accounted for three of the team's five runs in the opener with a run-scoring single and a two-run homer. Calhoun had gone 0-for-10 over his previous four games heading into Thursday, but he looks to be in line for increased playing time with Aaron Judge (toe) on the injured list.
