The 24-year-old hasn't appeared in an MLB game this year and carries a 5.94 ERA and 1.73 WHIP in 36.1 innings at Triple-A, so he'll almost certainly be reserved for low-leverage work.

Joining big club The Marlins are expected to recall Gonzalez from Triple-A Jacksonville on Saturday, Daniel Alvarez-Montes of ElExtraBase.com reports.

Impact Gonzalez has appeared in four games at Jacksonville since joining the Marlins organization Aug. 10, during which he's given up three earned runs on three hits and five walks while fanning eight batters in four innings. Although his performance hasn't been great, the Marlins will bring him up to add a fresh arm to their bullpen.

Heads to new organization The Marlins claimed Gonzalez off waivers from the White Sox on Monday and optioned him to Triple-A Jacksonville.

Impact The 24-year-old righty made 16 appearances out of the White Sox bullpen in 2025 but has pitched exclusively in the minors this season. Though Gonzalez had racked up 34 strikeouts over 24.2 innings at Triple-A Charlotte, an elevated 11.4 percent walk rate limited his effectiveness. He'll stick around at the Triple-A level with his new organization, and if he can show improved control, Gonzalez could get some opportunities in relief with the Marlins later on this season.

Impact Gonzalez has spent most of his time this season at Triple-A Charlotte, where he owns a 6.57 ERA and 1.74 WHIP through 24.2 innings. He'll now end up as the roster casualty necessary to make room on the 40-man for Hagen Smith, who was called up to the big leagues Saturday. Gonzalez has put up a 2.66 ERA in 20.1 career innings in the majors, but his poor performance in the minors this year could deter teams from claiming him off waivers.

Impact Gonzalez made his return to the Charlotte bullpen for the first time since late April after being shelved due to a right lat strain. Impact Gonzalez posted a 2.57 ERA and 1.00 WHIP while striking out 20 batters over 14 innings out of the Charlotte bullpen before landing on the shelf. The right-hander possesses a spot on the White Sox's 40-man roster, but he won't be an option for the big-league bullpen anytime soon while he continues to recover from the arm injury.

Impact Gonzalez dealt with a back injury during spring training, but he's managed to return to health for the start of the 2026 campaign.
