Ildemaro Vargas - Takes seat Thursday Vargas isn't in the Nationals' lineup Thursday against Miami, Bobby Blanco of MASNSports.com reports.
Impact Although Vargas is slashing .268/.294/.476 against left-handed pitchers this season, he'll retreat to the bench against Braxton Garrett and the Marlins on Thursday. Michael Chavis will fill in at the keystone and bat seventh.

Josiah Gray - Will stay on turn Sunday Nationals manager Dave Martinez confirmed Thursday that Gray will start Sunday's series finale against the Marlins, Bobby Blanco of MASNSports.com reports.
Impact Gray yielded four earned runs over just two innings (63 pitches) in his last rotation turn Monday against the Blue Jays, but Martinez said the 25-year-old looked sharp in his between-starts bullpen session Thursday afternoon in Washington. He'll stay on turn for now, though Gray might get a bit of extra rest at certain points down the stretch.

Lane Thomas - Remains out Thursday Thomas (back) won't be in the Nationals' lineup Thursday against the Marlins, Jesse Dougherty of The Washington Post reports.
Impact Thomas was removed from Wednesday's game against Toronto due to tightness in his back, and the issue seems to still be bothering him Thursday. Alex Call will take Thomas' place in right field while Jake Alu starts in left.

Joe La Sorsa - Recalled to Washington The Nationals recalled La Sorsa from Triple-A Rochester on Thursday, Bobby Blanco of MASNSports.com reports.
Impact La Sorsa will come up from the minors to fill MacKenzie Gore's spot on the roster after Gore was placed on the bereavement list Thursday. The 25-year-old lefty has put up a 5.66 ERA and 1.31 WHIP across 20.2 innings in the majors and will simply add depth to the Nats' bullpen while Gore is out.
