Joe La Sorsa - Called up by Washington The Nationals selected La Sorsa's contract from Triple-A Rochester on Saturday.
Impact La Sorsa was claimed by the Nationals in June of 2023 after being waived by the Rays. He started 2024 in Triple-A, and across 42 outings in the minors this season, La Sorsa has posted a 2.25 ERA, 1.00 WHIP and 41:11 K:BB across 56 innings. He'll operate out of the bullpen with Derek Law placed on the 15-day injured list due to a flexor strain in his right elbow.

Jacob Young - Swipes 28th bag Young went 2-for-4 with a double, an RBI and a stolen base in Friday's 3-2 loss to the Phillies.
Impact The center fielder came through in the top of the ninth inning as the Nats rallied from a 2-0 deficit, driving home the tying run with a fielder's choice, but the Phillies walked it off in the bottom of the frame. Young has picked up the pace at the plate in August, slashing .271/.300/.396 through 14 games, and his 28 steals on the season puts him in the top 10 in the majors.

James Wood - Keeps raking Friday Wood went 3-for-3 with a walk and a double in Friday's 3-2 loss to the Phillies.
Impact The rest of the Nationals' offense couldn't take advantage of the rookie's performance, but Wood continues to shine brighter as he grows more comfortable in the majors. Over his last 15 games, the 21-year-old is slashing an eye-popping .382/.460/.618 with 12 runs, 11 RBI and seven extra-base hits, including two homers. His 4-for-8 showing on the basepaths during that stretch does highlight that he still has some rough edges to his skill set, but Wood looks as though he will live up to his billing as Washington's next franchise player.

Kyle Finnegan - Tagged with loss Friday Finnegan (3-6) took the loss Friday, giving up a run on three hits and a walk without recording an out as the Nationals were downed 3-2 by the Phillies.
Impact Entering a 2-2 game in the bottom of the ninth inning, Finnegan served up singles to Brandon Marsh and Cal Stevenson before loading the bases by intentionally walking Kyle Schwarber. The desperation move didn't pay off, as former Nationals teammate Trea Turner walked it off by nearly launching a grand slam, although he only got credit for a single when the ball banged off the wall in left-center field. Things haven't gone smoothly for Finnegan of late, and the Nats could end up regretting not moving him at the trade deadline -- over his last seven appearances, the right-hander has a horrific 12.79 ERA, 2.84 WHIP and 4:4 K:BB in 6.1 innings, although he's managed to convert his only two save chances over that stretch.

Patrick Corbin - No-decision against Philly Corbin came away with a no-decision in Friday's 3-2 loss to the Phillies, giving up two runs on seven hits and two walks over 4.1 innings. He struck out two.
Impact The veteran left-hander remains stuck on 99 career wins, but Corbin wasn't efficient enough to have gotten No. 100 on Friday even if he had gotten some support from the Washington offense. The Phillies put runners in scoring position in four of the five frames Corbin worked but only broke through in the third, and he left the mound after 96 pitches (58 strikes) with the Nats down 2-0. Corbin has gone five straight starts without a win, stumbling to an 8.51 ERA, 1.97 WHIP and 20:9 K:BB through 24.1 innings over that stretch. He'll look for that elusive 100th victory in his next outing, which lines up to come at home next week against the Rockies.

Impact Parker struggled out of the gate, allowing six consecutive batters to reach with one out in the first inning while coughing up two homers to put Washington in an early hole.
