Warming Bernabel - Page 2 - MLB News, Rumors, & Updates

Returns to starting nine Bernabel will bat second and play first base Saturday against the Pirates.

Impact Bernabel was struck in the face by a baseball during pregame infield drills Thursday. He was scratched from Thursday's lineup and kept on the bench Friday. However, Bernabel has been given the green light to start Saturday's contest. He has eight hits in his last 22 at-bats (.364) with a 3:1 BB:K.

Remains out of lineup Bernabel (face) remains out of the lineup for Friday's game in Pittsburgh.

Impact Bernabel had to be scratched from Thursday's lineup versus the Dodgers after being struck in the face with a throw during pregame infield drills. His removal from the lineup that day was deemed precautionary, but it's evidently bad enough that he needs to miss at least one additional start. Orlando Arcia will cover first base in Bernabel's stead.

Scratched from lineup Bernabel was scratched from the lineup for Thursday's game versus the Dodgers after being struck in the face with a throw during pregame infield drills.

Impact The Rockies are saying Bernabel's removal from the lineup is precautionary, so it sounds like he'll have a good chance to be back in action Friday in Pittsburgh. Kyle Farmer has moved from the designated hitter spot to first base, while Hunter Goodman has entered the lineup at DH.

Strong weekend series Bernabel went 2-for-4 with two runs scored Sunday against the Diamondbacks.

Impact After a scorching start to his big-league career, Bernabel had slowed down considerably through mid-August. However, he enjoyed a strong series against the Diamondbacks at Coors Field, going 4-for-11 with a home run and four runs scored across four games. Though there will be some inconsistency, Bernabel has remained a near-everyday player and has hit primarily fifth in the lineup of late.

Another multi-hit game Bernabel went 3-for-4 with two doubles and a run in Saturday's 8-5 win over the Pirates.

Impact Bernabel's second double of the contest in the sixth frame was enough to chase Paul Skenes out of the game, and the former was brought home two batters later on a Brenton Doyle single. Bernabel is off to a fantastic start to his major-league career, going 14-for-28 (.500) with four doubles, one triple, five runs, three home runs and seven RBI in seven games.

Continues blazing career start Bernabel went 4-for-6 with a triple, two runs scored, a three-run home run and four RBI during Fridays 17-16 win over the Pirates.

Impact Bernabel has been up in the majors for just six MLB games, and he's certainly impressed in that small sample size. The 23-year-old has at least one hit in all six outings and multiple hits in three of them, but he had undoubtedly his best performance Friday after having four hits, four RBI and his first career triple. The young infielder is slashing .476/.500/1.000 with two doubles, three home runs and seven RBI as part of his blazing start.

Smacks first big-league homer Bernabel went 1-for-3 with a solo home run in Sunday's 5-1 loss to the Orioles.

Impact Making just his second big-league start, Bernabel was responsible for the entirety of Colorado's offense Sunday with his second-inning homer off Tomoyuki Sugano. The 23-year-old Bernabel is now 2-for-6 to start his major-league career after batting .301 with eight homers and an .806 OPS across 75 games with Triple-A Albuquerque this year. He should see regular playing time in the Rockies' infield following Ryan McMahon's trade to the Yankees.

Officially promoted to majors The Rockies selected Bernabel's contract from Triple-A Albuquerque on Saturday.

Impact This move was anticipated after Colorado traded long-time third baseman Ryan McMahon to the Yankees on Friday. Bernabel has put together a strong season with Albuquerque, slashing .301/.356/.450 with eight home runs, 45 RBI and five stolen bases over 75 games. He logged significant time at both third base and first base in the minors, but Bernabel figures to spend most of his time at the hot corner with the Rockies after McMahon's departure and could be given the opportunity to start on a frequent basis. Neither his power nor his speed are above average, so he'll likely need to hit for a high average to be an appealing fantasy asset.

Set to join big club The Rockies are expected to call up Bernabel from Triple-A Albuquerque on Saturday, Thomas Harding of MLB.com reports.

Impact The move won't be made until Saturday, but it comes after the Rockies traded Ryan McMahon to the Yankees in exchange for prospects Josh Grosz and Griffin Herring. After spending the last two seasons with Double-A Hartford, Bernabel has spent the entire 2025 season in Triple-A, where he is slashing .301/.356/.450 with five steals, 18 doubles, eight home runs and 45 RBI in 315 plate appearances. With the Rockies sporting the worst record in the majors, the 23-year-old Bernabel could have an opportunity to serve as the everyday third baseman for the rest of the season.

Outrighted to Double-A The Rockies outrighted Bernable to Double-A Hartford on Saturday after he cleared waivers, Thomas Harding of MLB.com reports.

Impact Bernabel had a dreadful 2023 season while missing time with back issues, which might have scared other teams off. He's just 21 and has shown some ability before, though, so the Rockies will gladly keep him around in the organization.

Exits 40-man roster The Rockies designated Bernabel for assignment Thursday, Patrick Lyons of JustBaseball.com reports.

Impact The move frees up a spot on the 40-man roster for Alan Trejo. Bernabel is coming off a .225/.270/.338 slash line over 322 plate appearances with Double-A Hartford in 2023.

Back in action Bernabel (back) was activated from the injured list July 14 and returned to the active roster for Double-A Hartford.

Impact Bernabel had been sidelined for nearly two months with the issue. He's struggled across his first 141 plate appearances with Hartford, managing just a .635 OPS. However, he's shown decent plate discipline with a 17.7 percent strikeout rate and 6.6 percent walk rate, so it's possible he sees better results moving forward.
