Impact Meckler will pick up his first start since March 9, when he exited in the first inning of a game against the Cubs after suffering a neck strain and a concussion while attempting to make a diving catch in the outfield. The 24-year-old was seemingly cleared a few days ago, as he was used off the bench as an outfielder in three straight games Friday, Saturday and Sunday. Meckler remains in the mix for a spot on San Francisco's Opening Day roster as a reserve outfielder.

Out with neck strain, concussion Meckler was diagnosed with a concussion and a mild neck strain after being re-evaluated Monday, Justice delos Santos of The San Jose Mercury News reports.

Impact Meckler sustained the injuries in Sunday's Cactus League game against the Cubs, when he was removed from the contest in the first inning after falling hard to the ground while unsuccessfully trying to reel in a line drive off the bat of Ian Happ. Though neither injury is believed to be a long-term concern, Meckler likely won't be available to play for at least a few days, and the missed time could hurt his chances of winning a reserve outfield spot on the Giants' Opening Day roster.

Activated, assigned to Double-A Triple-A Sacramento reinstated Meckler (wrist) from its 7-day injured list Friday and assigned him to Double-A Richmond.

Impact Meckler reached the big leagues for the first time last season and appeared in 20 games with the Giants, but he's played exclusively in the minors thus far in 2024 after being optioned to Sacramento in spring training. He's yet to see any action at the Triple-A level, however, as he was placed on Sacramento's IL before the start of the minor-league season due to a sprained wrist. Meckler began a rehab assignment in the rookie-level Arizona Complex League in mid-May and eventually moved up to Single-A San Jose before being shut down in early June after experiencing a setback. He resumed his rehab assignment June 20 and is now deemed to be healthy after he appeared in 19 games with three of the Giants' lower-level affiliates. Once he gets in a handful of games with Richmond, Meckler will likely move back up to Sacramento.

Impact An eighth-round pick in the 2022 MLB Draft out of Oregon State University, Meckler has soared through the Giants' minor-league system this summer while delivering an overall .379/.463/.522 batting line with five homers and six steals in 69 games between High-A, Double-A and Triple-A. The 23-year-old doesn't offer a ton of immediate counting-stats upside, but he can cover all three outfield spots and should command a healthy number of starts down the stretch as San Francisco aims to claim a spot in the NL Wild Card mix. Giants outfielders have posted a combined .225/.307/.368 slash line so far this year.

Promoted to Triple-A Meckler was promoted from Double-A Richmond to Triple-A Sacramento on Monday, Danny Emerman of KNBR 680 San Francisco reports.

Impact Meckler, an eighth-round pick in 2022, has been a revelation this year. He dominated in the lower levels, which didn't mean much given that he was old for those levels and had a .531 BABIP at Single-A in 2022 and a .493 BABIP at High-A this season. However, his .336/.431/.450 slash line with a 14.4 percent walk rate and 16.7 percent strikeout rate in 39 games as a 23-year-old at Double-A suggests he could make it as a regular and perhaps even as a leadoff hitter someday at the highest level. Meckler doesn't have above-average power or speed, so it will have to be his hit tool that drives his fantasy value and real-life value.
