Remains in organization The Angels outrighted Meckler to Triple-A Salt Lake on Monday.
Impact He's no longer on the 40-man roster, but Meckler will remain in the organization after passing through waivers unclaimed. The 25-year-old slashed .287/.390/.370 at Triple-A Sacramento in the Giants organization in 2025, though he hit just one home run across 87 games.
5 DAYS AGO • ROTOWIRE
Angels may have just hinted at their next move with latest roster shuffle In parting with Wade Meckler, the Los Angeles Angels now have a sudden need for a left-handed hitting outfielder.
JANUARY 29 • HALOHANGOUT.COM
Booted from 40-man roster The Angels designated Meckler for assignment Wednesday.
Impact The Angels needed to free up a spot on their 40-man roster for the addition of waiver claim Kaleb Ort (elbow). Meckler was a waiver claim himself earlier this month and will now go through the waivers process again. He slashed .287/.390/.370 at Triple-A Sacramento in the Giants organization in 2025 but swatted only one home run over 87 contests.
JANUARY 28 • ROTOWIRE
Angels steal former Giants top prospect in gambit that is just crazy enough to work The Los Angeles Angels added some needed outfield depth on Wednesday when they claimed Wade Meckler off of waivers from the Giants.
JANUARY 7 • HALOHANGOUT.COM
Snagged on waivers by Angels The Angels claimed Meckler off waivers from the Giants on Wednesday.
Impact Meckler got a cup of coffee in the big leagues in 2023 but has been stuck in the minors the last two seasons. The 25-year-old slashed .287/.390/.370 at Triple-A Sacramento in 2025, though he managed just one home run in 87 contests. Meckler can handle all three outfield spots and also played some second base for Sacramento last season, which should give him a better chance of cracking the Angels' Opening Day roster.
JANUARY 7 • ROTOWIRE
Designated for assignment The Giants designated Meckler for assignment Friday, Shayna Rubin of the San Francisco Chronicle reports.
Impact With Adrian Houser's signing becoming official Friday, Meckler will end up as the roster casualty necessary to make room on San Francisco's 40-man roster. The 25-year-old outfielder slashed .287/.390/.370 across 401 plate appearances at Triple-A Sacramento this past season, but he hasn't appeared in an MLB game since 2023. His ability to play across the outfield and at second base will help his chances of being claimed by another club. However, his chances of contributing in the majors are slim.
DECEMBER 20, 2025 • ROTOWIRE
Back in action at Triple-A Meckler (undisclosed) has gone 3-for-14 with a 5:4 BB:K and two runs in four games since being reinstated from Triple-A Sacramento's 7-day injured list Tuesday.
Impact Meckler was out of action at Triple-A for nearly two months before being cleared to rejoin the Giants' Pacific Coast League affiliate after a three-game rehab assignment in the rookie-level Arizona Complex League. The 25-year-old possesses a spot on the Giants' 40-man roster, but a return to the big leagues doesn't appear to be imminent.

Missing in action Meckler has not played for Triple-A Sacramento since March 29.
Impact He was placed on the 7-day injured list March 30, and then there was an erroneous transaction note on his MiLB page saying he was activated April 3, but he's still tending to the undisclosed injury six weeks after suffering it. Meckler went 3-for-6 with two walks, two steals and zero strikeouts in two games before getting hurt.

Sent to minors The Giants optioned Meckler to Triple-A Sacramento on Friday, Alex Pavlovic of NBC Sports Bay Area reports.
Impact Meckler comes up short in his bid to win a reserve outfielder job. The 24-year-old will play regularly at Sacramento while waiting for another opportunity in the majors.
MARCH 21, 2025 • ROTOWIRE
Makes return to spring lineup Meckler (concussion/neck) will start in left field and bat ninth in Monday's Cactus League game against the White Sox.
Impact Meckler will pick up his first start since March 9, when he exited in the first inning of a game against the Cubs after suffering a neck strain and a concussion while attempting to make a diving catch in the outfield. The 24-year-old was seemingly cleared a few days ago, as he was used off the bench as an outfielder in three straight games Friday, Saturday and Sunday. Meckler remains in the mix for a spot on San Francisco's Opening Day roster as a reserve outfielder.

Out with neck strain, concussion Meckler was diagnosed with a concussion and a mild neck strain after being re-evaluated Monday, Justice delos Santos of The San Jose Mercury News reports.
Impact Meckler sustained the injuries in Sunday's Cactus League game against the Cubs, when he was removed from the contest in the first inning after falling hard to the ground while unsuccessfully trying to reel in a line drive off the bat of Ian Happ. Though neither injury is believed to be a long-term concern, Meckler likely won't be available to play for at least a few days, and the missed time could hurt his chances of winning a reserve outfield spot on the Giants' Opening Day roster.

Impact Meckler grounded out in his lone at-bat during the top of the inning, then appeared to get hurt while unsuccessfully diving at an Ian Happ line drive that fell in the gap for a double in the bottom of the frame. Immediately after the play, the Giants subbed Hunter Bishop into the game in place of Meckler. The Giants will likely provide an update on Meckler's status following the game.
MARCH 9, 2025 • ROTOWIRE
Activated, assigned to Double-A Triple-A Sacramento reinstated Meckler (wrist) from its 7-day injured list Friday and assigned him to Double-A Richmond.
Impact Meckler reached the big leagues for the first time last season and appeared in 20 games with the Giants, but he's played exclusively in the minors thus far in 2024 after being optioned to Sacramento in spring training. He's yet to see any action at the Triple-A level, however, as he was placed on Sacramento's IL before the start of the minor-league season due to a sprained wrist. Meckler began a rehab assignment in the rookie-level Arizona Complex League in mid-May and eventually moved up to Single-A San Jose before being shut down in early June after experiencing a setback. He resumed his rehab assignment June 20 and is now deemed to be healthy after he appeared in 19 games with three of the Giants' lower-level affiliates. Once he gets in a handful of games with Richmond, Meckler will likely move back up to Sacramento.

Sent down to minors Meckler was optioned to Triple-A Sacramento on Wednesday.
Impact Meckler kept his roster spot over Luis Matos after Mike Yastrzemski returned from the injured list last week, but the Giants are swapping out the two players now. The 23-year-old posted a .578 OPS during his first 20 games in the big leagues.

On bench against lefty Meckler is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against Atlanta, Alex Pavlovic of NBC Sports Bay Area reports.
Impact Meckler will join fellow left-handed hitters Joc Pederson and LaMonte Wade on the bench while Atlanta brings a southpaw (Jared Shuster) to the hill for the second straight game. Austin Slater will replace Meckler in center field and will bat leadoff.

Sitting versus lefty Meckler isn't in San Francisco's lineup Saturday against Atlanta, Maria I. Guardado of MLB.com reports.
Impact Max Fried will toe the slab to begin Saturday's contest, so the lefty-hitting Meckler will take a seat. Austin Slater will take over in center field and bat in the leadoff spot while Meckler sits.

In preaching patience, Giants manager Gabe Kapler defending more than rookie Wade Meckler You could argue that Kapler was defending more than a struggling young outfielder. He was defending the organization's decision-makers.

Not starting against lefty Meckler is out of the lineup for Sunday's game versus Atlanta.
Impact Meckler started all five games in center field since being promoted by the Giants on Monday, but all five of those contests came against right-handed pitchers. Lefty Max Fried is pitching Sunday for Atlanta, so Austin Slater will take over in center and bat leadoff.
AUGUST 20, 2023 • ROTOWIRE
Batting second again Tuesday Meckler is again starting in center field and batting second Tuesday against the Rays.
Impact Meckler went 0-for-3 with a walk and two strikeouts in his major-league debut Monday versus Tampa Bay, but the Giants clearly believe he can be an impactful offensive presence at baseball's highest level just 14 months after selecting him in the eighth round of the 2022 MLB Draft. Prior to his sudden call-up, the 23-year-old had posted a stellar .379/.463/.522 batting line in 69 games this summer between High-A Eugene, Double-A Richmond and Triple-A Sacramento.
