Earns starting role
Scott will be the Cardinals' Opening Day center fielder, Derrick Goold of the St. Louis Post-Dispatch reports.
Impact
Scott had a difficult time during his first taste of the majors last year, posting a .179/.219/.283 slash line with two homers, 10 RBI, 14 runs and five stolen bases over 155 plate appearances. He did look better during his second call-up last summer and shined in spring training this year, registering a .366/.469/.756 slash line with four home runs, seven RBI, 11 runs and five thefts in 15 contests. The big numbers in exhibition play pushed Scott ahead of Michael Siani for the starting role in center field, and Scott should now be a hot commodity in fantasy, especially for his potential to steal loads of bases -- he posted a 99th percentile sprint speed last season and has swiped 95 bags in the minors in 2023.

Homers again Friday
Scott socked a solo home run, drew a walk and scored a pair of runs Friday versus the Astros in Grapefruit League play.
Impact
The home run was Scott's fourth of the spring, which ties him for the team lead. He's also stolen five bases while collecting a 9:8 K:BB. Scott has done all he can to secure the Cardinals' center field job, but it remains possible that he begins the year back at Triple-A Memphis. Michael Siani and Lars Nootbaar are also in the running for reps in center field with St. Louis.

Continues push for roster spot
Scott launched his third homer during Grapefruit League play in Wednesday's game versus the Nationals.
Impact
Scott clubbed one of two long balls off Nationals starter Jake Irvin, with Alec Burleson hitting the other. The speedy outfielder is competing for St. Louis' center field job and will win it if the decision is based purely on spring performance, as he's compiled a 1.149 OPS with three homers and five stolen bases. However, the Cardinals are also mulling using Lars Nootbaar in center field some days in order to get other bats into the lineup, which could be factored into the decision on Scott.

Close competition with Siani in CF
The Cardinals are "torn" on whether to start Scott or Michael Siani in center field, Katie Woo of The Athletic reports.
Impact
Lars Nootbaar appears set to see most of his playing time in left field and will be the backup in center field behind whoever out of Scott and Siani wins that job. Scott has had a nice spring at the plate, going 7-for-22 with one home run and four stolen bases. He's also impressive the team with his "work ethic, confidence and maturity this spring," per Woo. Meanwhile, Siani is only 1-for-25 at the dish during Grapefruit League play but offers the superior glove. The Cardinals are not expected to carry both Scott and Siani on the Opening Day roster, so the loser of this battle appears destined for Triple-A Memphis.

Homers, triples Tuesday
Scott tripled and socked a solo home run in Tuesday's Grapefruit League contest versus the Blue Jays.
Impact
Scott contributed the Cardinals' only two hits on the day and also had a 106 mph lineout. The speedy outfielder has reached base four times in his first two games this spring. Scott made the start in left field Tuesday while Lars Nootbaar played center field. Those two players along with Michael Siani are competing for reps in center field for St. Louis this season.

In center field mix
Cardinals manager Oliver Marmol considers the center field job to be an open competition between Scott, Michael Siani and Lars Nootbaar, Katie Woo of The Athletic reports.
Impact
Nootbaar is the only one of the three guaranteed a regular role, and with Nolan Arenado still around the chances of those reps coming in center field are higher. However, Scott and Siani are also firmly in the mix, particularly if Marmol leans more toward defense. Scott could be the team's long-term answer at the position, but he struggled mightily in 2024 with just a .502 OPS. The Cardinals will want him playing every day, so if he doesn't win the center field gig he's likely to open the season at Triple-A Memphis.

Sent back to Memphis
The Cardinals optioned Scott to Triple-A Memphis on Friday.
Impact
During his three-day stint in the big leagues, Scott went 3-for-5 with an RBI and two runs scored, and he'll now end up as the Cardinals' roster casualty as Luken Baker returns from paternity leave. Assuming he's played his final game in the majors this season, he'll finish his rookie season with a .179/.219/.283 slash line alongside 10 RBI through 155 plate appearances.

Rejoins big club
The Cardinals recalled Scott from Triple-A Memphis on Tuesday.
Impact
Scott is replacing Luken Baker, who went on paternity leave. It's not clear how much, if any, playing time Scott will receive, and his stay might last only a few days while Baker is away.

Sent back to minors
The Cardinals optioned Scott to Triple-A Memphis on Tuesday.
Impact
Scott hadn't made a start over the past week after Michael Siani returned from the injured list, so the Cardinals will send him back to Memphis where he can play every day. Thomas Saggese has been called up in a corresponding move.

Sitting Monday, likely to lose work
Scott is out of the lineup for Monday's game against the Brewers, John Denton of MLB.com reports.
Impact
Scott had started in center field in each of the last four contests and 10 of the lsat 11 games, but he appears headed for a steep downturn in playing time after manager Oliver Marmol said that Michael Siani -- who was activated from the injured list Sunday -- would see the "bulk of the time in center field" moving forward, per Jeff Jones of the Belleville News-Democrat. At least for the time being, the Cardinals will keep Scott in the fold in a bench role, where he prove to be a weapon in the late innings thanks to his speed on the basepaths. Scott has slashed .231/.268/.385 with two home runs, three stolen bases, seven RBI and five runs in 24 games since getting recalled from Triple-A Memphis on Aug. 4.

Not in St. Louis lineup
Scott is not in the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Padres.
Impact
It's a day off for Scott, who had started each of the previous six contests, reaching base nine times over that span. Lars Nootbaar will shift over to center field and be flanked by Tommy Pham in left and Alec Burleson in right.

Swipes bag in loss
Scott went 1-for-4 with a stolen base in Tuesday's 7-5 loss to the Padres.
Impact
Scott has gone 7-for-21 (.333) with a home run and three steals over his last six contests. The rookie outfielder is batting .226 during his current stint in the majors, but that's a significant improvement over his .157 average for the season. He's up to five steals, two homers, eight RBI, 10 runs scored and seven doubles through 130 plate appearances. Scott will likely continue to handle a starting role in center field until Michael Siani (oblique) returns from his rehab assignment.

Knocks homer
Scott went 1-for-4 with a solo home run in Sunday's 3-2 win over the Twins.
Impact
The homer was the second of Scott's major-league career, both of which have come during his current stint with the Cardinals. He's shown some positives lately, going 6-for-17 (.353) with two steals and three extra-base hits over his last seven contests. Scott is slashing .150/.197/.265 with two homers, eight RBI, 10 runs scored and four steals over 122 plate appearances as a rookie this year.

Adds another steal
Scott went 0-for-3 with a walk, one RBI, a stolen base and one run scored in Friday's 6-1 win over the Twins.
Impact
Scott wasn't able to build on his three-hit effort from Thursday, but he stole a base for the second game in a row. Speed is his biggest positive, though he's posted a .183 on-base percentage through 115 plate appearances in the majors this year, which is a big reason why he's been limited to four steals. He's been a bit better since his Aug. 4 call-up, slashing .208/.240/.333 over 15 games since he returned to the majors.

Breaks out with three hits, steal
Scott went 3-for-4 with a double, a stolen base and one run scored in Thursday's 3-0 win over the Brewers.
Impact
Scott had gone 4-for-27 over his previous nine contests before putting together a strong effort from the bottom of the order in this game. His steal Thursday was his third of the campaign in 35 games, as his prolific speed (29 steals in 74 games with Triple-A Memphis) has been hampered by his trouble getting on base in the majors. Even with the three-hit effort, Scott is batting .144 on the year with a .411 OPS, one home run, six RBI and eight runs scored over 111 plate appearances.

Scott is not in the lineup for Wednesday's contest against the Brewers.
Impact
