The big numbers in exhibition play pushed Scott ahead of Michael Siani for the starting role in center field, and Scott should now be a hot commodity in fantasy, especially for his potential to steal loads of bases -- he posted a 99th percentile sprint speed last season and has swiped 95 bags in the minors in 2023.

The Cardinals are not expected to carry both Scott and Siani on the Opening Day roster, so the loser of this battle appears destined for Triple-A Memphis.

Impact Nootbaar is the only one of the three guaranteed a regular role, and with Nolan Arenado still around the chances of those reps coming in center field are higher. However, Scott and Siani are also firmly in the mix, particularly if Marmol leans more toward defense. At least for the time being, the Cardinals will keep Scott in the fold in a bench role, where he prove to be a weapon in the late innings thanks to his speed on the basepaths. Scott has slashed .231/.268/.385 with two home runs, three stolen bases, seven RBI and five runs in 24 games since getting recalled from Triple-A Memphis on Aug. 4.
