Heading to bench for series opener
Scott is out of the lineup for Monday's game against the Pirates.
Impact
After another 0-for-3 performance in Sunday's 3-2 loss to Seattle dropped his average to .191, Scott will take a seat for the series opener in Pittsburgh. Nathan Church will fill in as the Cardinals' center fielder in place of Scott, who could be at risk of falling into more of a part-time role if he's unable to get going offensively over his next handful of starts.

Not in Friday's lineup
Scott is absent from the lineup for Friday's game versus the Mariners.
Impact
Scott has been in an extended slump at the plate, as he's hitless across his last seven games and is just 5-for-45 at the dish since the calendar flipped to April. Nathan Church will slide over to start in center field, while Jose Fermin gets the call in left field for the Cardinals.

Yet to get on track
Scott has a .161/.317/.226 slash line with one double and five stolen bases through 42 plate appearances in Grapefruit League action.
Impact
The 25-year-old reworked his swing during the offseason and entered spring training looking to bunt for base hits more often, but he has just five total bases through 13 Grapefruit League games. Scott will provide strong defense in center field, but his bat will likely need to come to life at some point in 2026 to retain the starting job. He played in 138 games last year and posted a .216/.305/.296 slash line with five homers and 34 steals.

Reworks swing over offseason
Scott reengineered his swing over the offseason after a motion-capture study, Derrick Goold of the St. Louis Post-Dispatch reports.
Impact
The specific changes Scott made aren't clear, but the speedy outfielder is also focused this spring on bunting for base hits. Scott was a Gold Glove finalist in 2025 in his first full major-league season for his fine defensive work in center field, but he slashed only .216/.305/.296 with five home runs. The 25-year-old did steal 34 bases in 38 attempts, and if he is a factor in fantasy leagues in 2026, it will likely be almost solely due to his ability on the basepaths.

Logs steal in loss
Scott went 2-for-3 with a double and a stolen base in Sunday's 2-0 loss to the Cubs.
Impact
Scott finished the season 10th in the majors in steals after picking up his 34th pilfer of the year Sunday. This was also his first multi-hit effort since July 11 -- the outfielder hit a pathetic .171 after the All-Star break, dropping his season average to .216 across 138 games. Scott added a .601 OPS, five home runs, 37 RBI, 54 runs scored, 15 doubles and one triple in 463 plate appearances in his first full major-league season.

Sitting for third time in four games
Scott is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Brewers.
Impact
The left-handed-hitting Scott will hit the bench for the third time in four games, this time sitting against a lefty starter (Jose Quintana) after his previous two absences came versus right-handers. Nathan Church will draw the start in center field Sunday, but the Cardinals could take a committee approach to the position over the final two weeks rather than leaning on a set everyday starter.
