Mets put RHP Megill on injured list with biceps tendinitis

Right-hander Tylor Megill was placed on the 15-day injured list by the New York Mets because of biceps tendinitis

On IL with biceps inflamation Megill was placed on the 15-day injured list Sunday with right biceps inflammation.

Impact He will undergo an MRI on Sunday and and the Mets will provide follow-up information. Megill gave up eight earned runs on eight hits and one walk in 1.1 innings in his last start against the Nationals. He dazzled in his first two starts of the season but has a 6.29 ERA and 1.36 WHIP over his last five starts. David Peterson could be an option to replace him in the rotation.

Smashed by Nationals Megill (4-2) took the loss Wednesday as the Mets fell 8-3 to the Nationals, surrendering eight runs on eight hits and a walk over only 1.1 innings while striking out just one.

Impact After lasting at least five innings in each of his first six starts this season and allowing more than three runs only once in that stretch, Megill simply didn't have it Wednesday. Homers by Juan Soto and Nelson Cruz accounted for most of the damage, doubling the number of long balls he's served up this year, and the right-hander got the hook after 54 pitches (31 strikes). Megill will take a 4.41 ERA with a still-solid 1.13 WHIP and 37:9 K:BB through 34.2 innings into his next outing.

Takes first loss Megill (4-1) allowed three earned runs on four hits and two walks while striking out nine across 5.1 innings to take the loss Tuesday against Atlanta.

Impact Megill didn't allow a hit through four innings -- though he did walk two batters -- but he began to struggle in the latter portions of his outing. He exited the game with the bases loaded and all three of those runners ultimately came around to score, which resulted in his first loss of the season. Despite the disappointing end to his start, Megill still generated 15 swinging strikes on 94 total pitches. He also still maintains a strong 2.45 ERA backed by a 35:8 K:BB across his first 33 innings on the campaign.
