New era begins Soderstrom's contract was selected from Triple-A Las Vegas ahead of Friday's game against the Twins.

Impact Soderstrom is as good of a candidate as any to be the face of the Athletics franchise going forward. The 21-year-old lefty hitter has huge raw power and could retain catcher eligibility for several years while playing almost every day at a combination of catcher, first base and designated hitter. Soderstrom, who was selected with the 26th overall pick in the 2020 draft, hit .254 with 20 home runs and 59 RBI in 69 games at Triple-A. There could be some initial growing pains with strikeouts and a low batting average, but Soderstrom has a chance to contribute positively in the four non-speed roto categories during his prime years.

Set for MLB debut Friday Soderstrom will be called up from Triple-A Las Vegas by the Athletics to make his major-league debut, Chris Correa of the Turlock Journal reports.

Impact Soderstrom has put up a .254/.303/.536 slash with 20 home runs over 69 games with Las Vegas this season while splitting his time between catcher and first base. The top prospect figures to see most of his action with the A's at first base and perhaps designated hitter, although with Manny Pina aggravating his wrist issue Sunday, Soderstrom could see some action at catcher, as well. He's 21 and his numbers in the minors this year were only decent, given the hitter-friendly environment. Still, Soderstrom is a premier talent who should be rostered in fantasy leagues, especially where he's eligible at catcher.

On power surge in Vegas Soderstrom has three home runs in his last five games for Triple-A Las Vegas and carries an .835 OPS over 221 plate appearances for the Aviators.

Impact Soderstrom continues to put together a convincing case for a promotion during his most extensive stint at the Triple-A level yet. The promising 21-year-old has played slightly more at catcher (27 games) than first base (20 games), and it's the latter where Soderstrom is believed to have a clearer path to playing time at the big-league level. However, rookie Ryan Noda has made a solid case for himself at the position with the Athletics thus far by generating an outstanding .410 on-base percentage and impressive .462 slugging percentage over his first 60 big-league games.
