INJURIES

Lasts 3.1 innings in no-decision Phillips didn't factor into the decision Friday against the A's after allowing five runs on seven hits and two walks across 3.1 innings. He struck out two.
Impact Phillips allowed just two baserunners in the first two innings, but he gave up a two-run homer to Nick Kurtz in the third and three more runs in the fourth before being lifted. This was a step back for the 28-year-old right-hander, who had given up two or fewer runs while pitching at least six frames in his previous two appearances. Phillips, who owns a 5.93 ERA and 1.52 WHIP in six outings since the beginning of June, will look to bounce back in his next start, which should come against the Mariners at home.

Saddled with third loss Phillips (1-3) took the loss Sunday, allowing two runs on six hits and no walks over 7.1 innings against the Cardinals. He struck out one.
Impact Phillips logged his longest outing of the year, with the only damage coming on a Bryan Torres two-run homer in the second inning, but a lack of run support saddled the right-hander with the loss. Despite working deep into Sunday's contest, Phillips didn't generate many swings and misses, recording his fewest strikeouts in a start this season, though he also didn't issue a walk for the first time as a starter. The 28-year-old will take a 3.02 ERA, 1.31 WHIP and 50:30 K:BB across 65.2 innings and 22 appearances (six starts) into his next outing, tentatively scheduled for Friday on the road against the Athletics.

Logs first quality start Phillips took a no-decision Monday against the Rangers, allowing two runs on five hits and three walks in six innings. He struck out four.
Impact It was Phillips' finest showing as a starter this year, as he turned in his first quality start Monday. The 28-year-old right-hander also threw a season-high 89 pitches, suggesting he's just about fully stretched out and ready to handle a traditional starter's workload going forward. Phillips, who has a 3.09 ERA, 1.37 WHIP and 49:30 K:BB over 58.1 innings, tentatively lines up to take at least one more turn through Miami's rotation in St. Louis over the weekend.

Flops in Philly Phillips (1-2) took the loss Tuesday, surrendering eight runs on six hits -- including three home runs -- and three walks over four innings as the Marlins fell 8-2 to the Phillies....
Impact The Phillies put up three runs off the right-hander in the first inning without leaving the yard, but even that small grace note on the outing was quickly spoiled as Brandon Marsh, Alec Bohm and Kyle Schwarber all launched homers before Phillips got the hook after 79 pitches (48 strikes). The eight earned runs allowed were more than Phillips had given up in his prior 11 appearances and 31.1 innings combined, spiking his ERA on the season from 1.86 to 3.10, while the three longs balls were more than he's served up all year. He'll try to shake off this disaster in his next start, which lines up to come at home this weekend against the Giants.

Defangs D-backs for first victory Phillips (1-1) earned the win over Arizona on Thursday, allowing two hits and issuing two walks while striking out five batters over five-plus scoreless innings.
Impact Phillips served as a bulk reliever in his previous outing June 5, but he was deployed as a starter Thursday. The right-hander excelled in that role, limiting the Diamondbacks to just one hit through five frames. Phillips went back out for the sixth and yielded a single before being lifted at 70 pitches. Having worked out of the bullpen for most of the campaign, Phillips isn't yet up to a full starter's workload, topping out at 82 pitches in that June 5 piggyback appearance. He should be able to push his pitch count up as he settles into the rotation, and he may be worth a look for fantasy managers in need of pitching given his 2.95 ERA across 18.1 innings since moving into the rotation. His 14:8 K:BB over that span is less appealing, though.

Working as starter Thursday Phillips is slated to start Thursday's game against the Diamondbacks in Miami.
Impact After piggybacking Ryan Gusto for 4.2 innings in relief in his most recent appearance last Friday versus the Rays, Phillips will move back into a starting role for his upcoming turn through the rotation. The right-hander has covered at least three frames in each of his last four appearances (two starts), going 0-1 with a 3.31 ERA, 1.47 WHIP and 11:7 K:BB across 16.1 innings during that span.
JUNE 10 • ROTOWIRE
Shaky in piggyback role Phillips didn't factor into the decision in Friday's loss to the Rays, giving up three runs on seven hits and three walks over 4.2 relief innings, He struck out three.
Impact The right-hander worked in tandem with Ryan Gusto, who got the start and took the loss after coughing up three runs of his own in just two innings. Phillips wound up tossing 82 pitches (50 strikes) to help save the rest of the bullpen, and he even took a comebacker off the foot from Yandy Diaz in the fifth inning but was able to stay in the game. The Marlins' injury-depleted staff can ill afford to lose another arm, and assuming the foot isn't an issue, Phillips should get another turn as a starter or bulk reliever during next week's home series against the Diamondbacks. Over 18 appearances (two starts) this season, he carries a 2.08 ERA, 1.36 WHIP and 36:22 K:BB in 43.1 innings.

Set for bulk relief outing Friday Phillips will pitch in Friday's game versus the Rays at some point after starting pitcher Ryan Gusto, Christina De Nicola of MLB.com reports.
Impact Each of Phillips' last two appearances were traditional starts, but he'll come out of the bullpen Friday. The right-hander went five innings and threw 72 pitches his last time out, so he'll likely provide length Friday in what could be a piggyback start with Gusto.

JUNE 3 • Associated Press
One bad inning in first loss Phillips (0-1) took the loss against the Mets on Saturday; allowing three runs on six hits and one walk with two strikeouts over five innings.
Impact Phillips allowed four baserunners and three runs in the fourth inning while throwing just 43 of 72 pitches for strikes and generating only six whiffs. On the bright side, it was his longest outing of the season in both innings and pitches as he continues to get stretched out to remain in the rotation. The 28-year-old will carry a 1.63 ERA, 1.27 WHIP and 33:19 K:BB across 38.2 innings between two starts and 15 relief appearances into a home matchup against the Rays next weekend.
