Shuttled to 60-day IL
The Astros transferred Ivey (elbow) on the 60-day injured list Monday, Chandler Rome of the Houston Chronicle reports.
Impact
The transaction clears up a 40-man roster spot for utility man Jacob Wilson, whom Houston claimed off waivers from Oakland in a corresponding move. Ivey has already been ruled out for the remainder of the season after he was diagnosed with a nerve issue in his right elbow following his big-league debut May 21, so the move to the 60-day IL won't affect his timeline for a return.

Done for season
Ivey will miss the rest of the season due to a nerve issue in his elbow, Chandler Rome of the Houston Chronicle reports.
Impact
He had apparently been pitching hurt for quite some time and finally spoke up about it since nothing was working for him. While he suffered a Grade 1 UCL strain in 2019, there is reportedly no damage to his UCL this time around. However, Ivey may require Thoracic Outlet Syndrome surgery, which is a very significant procedure for a pitcher. The best-case scenario is that he is healthy for spring training next year but he could be sidelined longer than that.

Sent down after spot start
Ivey gave up four earned runs on six hits and one walk while striking out three in 4.2 innings Friday against the Rangers. He did not factor into the decision and was optioned to T...
Impact
It was a spot start for the 25-year-old righty, and the Astros won't need a fifth starter again until June 1 against Boston, at which point Jake Odorizzi (forearm) and/or Jose Urquidy (shoulder) could be activated from the injured list. Ivey had given up five runs and five walks in 6.1 innings at Triple-A prior to getting the call, so he has some refinement left to do on the farm.

Promoted to big-leagues
Ivey was called up Wednesday by the Astros and will start Friday's game against the Rangers, Chandler Rome of the Houston Chronicle reports.
Impact
Ivey has allowed five earned runs in 6.1 innings across two minor-league games this season. Widely considered one of the Astros' top prospects, the righty will be making his big-league debut Friday.

Optioned to Triple-A
Ivey was optioned to Triple-A on Tuesday, Chandler Rome of the Houston Chronicle reports.
Impact
The 24-year-old righty did not allow a run and struck out six over four innings this spring. He also walked three while surrendering just one hit. Ivey could provide rotation or bullpen depth later this season.

Shielded from Rule 5 draft
Ivey was added to the Astros' 40-man roster Friday, Jake Kaplan of The Athletic reports.
Impact
Ivey has been unable to build up his workload much over the past two seasons, so that will be a priority in 2021 as he looks to prove that he can be a starter long term. He has a mid-90s fastball and two breaking balls with plus potential, so he could be a quality reliever if things don't work out in the rotation.
