Lifted with arm injury Callihan was removed from Monday's game against Atlanta due to an apparent left arm injury, David O'Brien of The Athletic reports.

Impact Callihan suffered the injury while attempting to make a catch at the wall and immediately exited the field after the play. Blake Dunn replaced Calliahan in left field.

Impact He'll join the 26-man active roster as a replacement for corner infielder Jeimer Candelario (spine), who was placed on the 10-day injured list. The 24-year-old had gotten off to a nice start to the season at Louisville, slashing .303/.410/.528 with four home runs and six stolen bases over 106 plate appearances. Callihan is capable of playing three infield spots as well as left field, but his left-handedness could work against him in earning meaningful playing time, as he won't represent a viable platoon mate for fellow lefty hitters Jake Fraley and Gavin Lux.

Impact After starting the Triple-A season with a .303/.410/.528 slash line alongside four homers, 12 RBI, 19 runs scored and six stolen bases through 106 plate appearances, Callihan will join the big-league club to provide Cincinnati with some depth at second base and left field. With Jeimer Candelario (back) and Austin Hays (hamstring) both currently dealing with injuries, Callihan's impending promotion seemingly indicates a move to the IL for at least one of the two players.

Sent to minor-league camp The Reds optioned Callihan to Triple-A Louisville on Monday.

Impact Callihan was added to the 40-man roster in November, but given that he has only four games of experience above the Double-A level in addition to the fact that Cincinnati is well stocked in the infield, he never looked like a serious threat to break camp with the big club. The 24-year-old will likely spend the majority of the season at Louisville after slashing .271/.345/.413 with eight home runs and 21 steals over his 282 plate appearances at Double-A Chattanooga in 2024.

Impact Callihan has only played four games above Double-A, so he probably won't be up in the majors early this season, but he had a strong showing last year in the upper minors. A utility player who moves between second base, left field and first base, Callihan slashed .276/.359/.429 with nine home runs and 22 steals in 73 games, primarily at Double-A.
