INJURIES

Strikes out seven in win Anderson (2-2) earned the win Wednesday, allowing two runs on three hits and two walks with seven strikeouts in five innings in the first game of a doubleheader against the Tigers.
Impact Anderson threw 64 of his 90 pitches for strikes. He benefited from the Pirates' three-run fourth inning to give them a lead. Anderson has been solid in 2021 with a 3.92 ERA, 1.35 WHIP and 21:6 K:BB across 20.2 innings. He is expected to make his next start during next week's two-game series versus the Royals.
APRIL 21, 2021 • ROTOWIRE
Scheduled start postponed Anderson won't start Tuesday against the Tigers as scheduled as the game has been postponed due to inclement weather, Chris McCosky of The Detroit News reports.
Impact The game will be made up as part of a doubleheader Wednesday. Anderson will likely start one of those two games, though that would presumably mean he won't get a two-start week this week, as he'd no longer be lined up to start again Sunday in Minnesota.
APRIL 20, 2021 • ROTOWIRE
Allows one run in win Anderson (1-2) allowed one run on four hits and two walks while striking out two over 5.1 innings, as he earned the win over the Padres on Wednesday.
Impact Anderson had a spectacular bounceback performance Wednesday after he suffered a pair of losses to the Cubs in his first two starts of the season. The 31-year-old left-hander did not allow a base runner past second and was charged with his only run after he was pulled from the game in the sixth, as reliever Duane Underwood allowed Manny Machado to score on an RBI single by Tommy Pham. Anderson lowered his ERA to 4.02 and has compiled a solid 14:4 K:BB over 15.2 innings and could be a solid streaming option in his next start when he faces the Tigers on April 20.
APRIL 15, 2021 • ROTOWIRE
Tagged with loss Anderson (0-2) allowed three earned runs on 10 hits and no walks while striking out five across 5.1 innings to take the loss Thursday against the Cubs.
Impact Anderson was burned by the long ball, as homers by Kris Bryant and Javier Baez accounted for all three of his earned runs. While he didn't surrender any walks, it's possible Anderson was in the strike zone too much, as he was tagged for 10 hits. Anderson has had mediocre results across two starts with the Pirates, surrendering six earned runs across 10.1 innings while accruing a 12:2 K:BB. Anderson currently lines up to make his next start Wednesday against the Padres.
APRIL 9, 2021 • ROTOWIRE
Pitches decently Saturday Anderson allowed three earned runs on five hits and two walks in five innings of a 5-1 loss to the Cubs on Saturday. He struck out seven batters.
Impact The lefty, who recorded 22 swings-and-misses, took advantage of the free-swinging Cubs but surrendered a solo homer to Kris Bryant. He's lined up to make the team's home Opening Day start Thursday, though nothing has been announced.
APRIL 3, 2021 • ROTOWIRE
Season debut set for Saturday Anderson is scheduled to start the Pirates' second game of the season Saturday against the Cubs, Rob Biertempfel of The Athletic reports.
Impact Due mostly to the Pirates' lack of appealing alternatives for the rotation, Anderson never faced much resistance this spring in his bid for a starting role. While Anderson's 5.00 ERA, 1.33 WHIP and 18:2 K:BB over 18 innings in the Grapefruit League were hardly world-beating, his numbers stacked up favorably with the rest of the team's rotation candidates. He's thus expected to enter 2021 with a decent amount of leash in the rotation, but Anderson likely won't warrant much consideration in fantasy as anything more than a deep-league streaming option.

Struggles against Yanks Anderson surrendered five earned runs in three innings against the Yankees on Wednesday, allowing eight hits and no walks while striking out a pair.
Impact The lefty, who gave up homers to both Giancarlo Stanton and Gleyber Torres, is expected to start 2021 as part of the team's rotation. His home field, PNC Park, is ideal for left-handed pitchers. At best, he may serve as a streaming option against weak-hitting squads at home.
MARCH 11, 2021 • ROTOWIRE
Makes Grapefruit League debut Anderson allowed three hits and one earned run while striking out three batters in two scoreless innings against Atlanta on Thursday.
Impact He labored through 43 pitches, though he threw 31 for strikes and didn't issue a walk. The lefty figures to serve in the back end of the Pirates' rotation. Anderson limits hard contact (31 percent career rate) but has never struck out more than 22.3 percent of opposing batters in five MLB seasons. At 31 years of age, the organization is looking for him to eat innings and help its young pitching staff.

Let go by San Francisco Anderson was non-tendered by the Giants on Wednesday, Mark Feinsand of MLB.com reports.
Impact The left-hander started 11 games for the Giants during the shortened season and had a 4.37 ERA, 1.39 WHIP and 41:25 K:BB over 59.1 innings. Anderson spent the previous four seasons with the Rockies and had a 4.69 ERA in 73 appearances (71 starts).

Posts quality start Friday Anderson (4-3) allowed two runs on five hits and four walks while also striking out four across six innings as he earned the win over the Padres on Friday.
Impact Friday's outing was a solid one for Anderson, who really only had some minor struggles with allowing walks in the game. He gave up an RBI double to Tommy Pham in the second inning but otherwise kept it clean until he came back out for the seventh and surrendered a leadoff double to end his night. Anderson was charged with a second earned run but fortunately still picked up a win even as the Padres piled on three runs in the seventh in a failed comeback attempt. The southpaw has put up a 4.37 ERA and has reeled off three wins in his last four starts to finish out the regular season and push San Francisco toward a potential playoff berth.
SEPTEMBER 26, 2020 • ROTOWIRE
Solid in win Anderson (3-3) allowed two unearned runs on four hits and three walks while striking out four in 5.2 innings in a win over the Athletics on Sunday.
Impact Anderson was ejected from his start Thursday, allowing him to pitch again on short rest, and he delivered solid results given the circumstances. The 30-year-old lowered his ERA to 4.53 with a 1.38 WHIP and 37:21 K:BB in 53.2 innings this season in 12 appearances (10 starts). The southpaw lines up for a start in one game of Friday's doubleheader versus the Padres.
SEPTEMBER 21, 2020 • ROTOWIRE
Set to start Sunday Anderson will start Sunday's game against the Athletics, Andrew Baggarly of The Athletic reports.
Impact Johnny Cueto was originally slated to start Sunday, but the Giants will push him back to Monday for some extra rest. Anderson last took the mound Thursday, but he was ejected after only two innings and will return for his next start on two days rest.
SEPTEMBER 19, 2020 • ROTOWIRE
Tossed early Anderson threw two innings of four-hit, four-run ball on Thursday prior to being ejected, as the Giants beat the Marinera 6-4. He struck out three while walking one.
Impact Home plate umpire Edwin Moscoso was maligned on the broadcast throughout the afternoon and Anderson paid the price after arguing balls and strikes in the third. Nonetheless, after pitching six scoreless innings versus the Mariners in his last start on Sept. 9, Anderson was much less sharp this time around. He'll look to bounce back in his next start against Colorado on Tuesday.

Start postponed by poor air quality Anderson won't start Tuesday in Seattle as scheduled, as the game has been postponed due to air quality issues, Jared Diamond of The Wall Street Journal reports.
Impact Parts of the West Coast have the world's worst air quality at the moment due to wildfires tearing through the region. The teams will travel down to San Francisco, where the situation is slightly better, and will hope to complete their two-game series Wednesday and Thursday. According to Andrew Baggarly of The Athletic, Anderson will receive an additional day of rest and start Thursday's contest.
SEPTEMBER 15, 2020 • ROTOWIRE
Hurls six scoreless frames Anderson (2-3) earned the win Wednesday after holding the Mariners scoreless across six innings. He allowed three hits and a walk while striking out four.
Impact The southpaw snapped a two-game losing streak to pick up his second win of the season. Anderson threw 65-of-100 pitches for strikes while blanking the Mariners across six innings. It was the fourth time this season that Anderson did not allow a run. The 30-year-old will look to continue improving upon a 4.50 ERA and 1.35 WHIP during a rematch at Seattle on Tuesday.

SEPTEMBER 9, 2020 • Associated Press
Second straight loss Anderson (1-3) was tagged with the loss Friday against the Diamondbacks. He allowed four runs on seven hits and one walk while fanning two across four innings.
Impact Anderson's last two starts against Arizona haven't been pretty -- he has given up 11 runs on 16 hits and four walks while fanning five across 8.2 innings. He also tossed a complete game against the Diamondbacks on Aug. 22, however, so he has shown the ability to get things done in the past. Through nine appearances (seven starts), Anderson owns a 5.18 ERA and a 1.45 WHIP this season. His next scheduled start will come Sep. 9 at home against the Mariners.
SEPTEMBER 5, 2020 • ROTOWIRE
Takes loss against Arizona Anderson (1-2) was tagged with the loss Friday against the Diamondbacks. He gave up seven runs on nine hits and three walks while fanning three across 4.2 innings.
Impact Anderson was coming off a complete game against Arizona in his previous start and had allowed two or fewer runs in five of his first seven starts of the season, but he crumbled early in this game and didn't find a way to turn things around. It seems the complete game of Aug. 22 might be an outlier instead of the norm going forward for the 30-year-old lefty, as he has now given up four or more runs in three of his last four starts.
AUGUST 29, 2020 • ROTOWIRE
Goes distance for first win Anderson (1-1) allowed one unearned run in nine innings to pick up the win against Arizona on Saturday. He yielded three hits and did not walk a batter while striking out four.
Impact Anderson was sharp in his first career complete game, needing only 103 pitches to close out the victory. The only run against him came in the seventh inning as a result of a throwing error by Brandon Crawford, a stolen base and a single. The dominant performance was a significant improvement over Anderson's previous two outings, during which he gave up a combined nine runs over 10 innings. The southpaw will look to build upon his strong start when he heads to Arizona for a rematch with the Diamondbacks on Friday.
