Scores three times in win Sweeney went 2-for-5 with a double, an RBI and three runs scored in Saturday's 8-5 win over the Twins.

Impact Sweeney recorded his first multi-hit performance since May 12 and set a new season high in runs scored. It's been a bit of a struggle for the second-year shortstop, as he's batting just .206 overall with a .573 OPS. Sweeney spent some time with Triple-A Toledo until a recent call-up to the majors, and he's no better than a bench option for Detroit at this point.

Called up, starting Sunday The Tigers recalled Sweeney from Triple-A Toledo on Sunday, and he'll start at shortstop and bat eighth in the team's series finale versus the Angels.

Impact Detroit opened up a spot on the 26-man active roster for Sweeney by placing outfielder/infielder Matt Vierling (oblique) on the 10-day injured list. Though he'll be included in the lineup as he rejoins the Tigers, Sweeney is expected to see limited playing time during his latest stint in the big leagues. The 25-year-old has slashed just .208/.275/.303 with five home runs and three stolen bases over 258 plate appearances with the Tigers this season.

Impact Though Sweeney will start at shortstop and bat ninth in the first game of Wednesday's doubleheader, he's expected to operate primarily in a reserve role during his upcoming stint with the big club. Sweeney opened the season as the Tigers' everyday shortstop but begin to see his playing time dwindle in early June, when Javier Baez wasn't needed as often in the outfield and began seeing more opportunities at Sweeney's expense. Before being demoted to Triple-A last Friday, Sweeney slashed just .221/.280/.314 with four home runs and two stolen bases over 225 plate appearances on the season.
