Trevor Richards - MLB News, Rumors, & Updates

Picks up save Sunday Richards was credited with the save Sunday against Colorado, allowing one run on one hit and no walks in 3.1 innings. He struck out three.

Impact Richards bridged the final gap between the regular season and postseason for the White Sox on Sunday. The performance bolstered his case to make Chicago's playoff roster, and the right-hander is expected to fill a middle-relief role as a multi-inning option this postseason. He'll close the regular season with a 3.78 ERA, 1.13 WHIP and 68:23 K:BB across 78.2 innings for the White Sox.

Picks up first save Richards secured the save against the Guardians on Sunday, allowing one run on no hits and two walks in the ninth inning.

Impact A two-hour rain delay forced the White Sox into a bullpen game Sunday, and Chicago elected to throw most of its high-leverage arms earlier in what was a close contest. Grant Taylor, who looks to have worked his way into the closer spot as of late, might have also been unavailable after throwing three innings in the past three days, so it certainly appears as though the stars aligned for Richards' rare save chance. Through 48.1 innings for the White Sox, the right-hander has a hold and a save in two attempts while posting a 3.54 ERA, 1.08 WHIP and 45:15 K:BB.

Shipped to South Siders The Phillies traded Richards to the White Sox on Tuesday in exchange for cash, Matt Gelb of The Athletic reports.

Impact Richards was designated for assignment earlier Tuesday, but his move to Chicago will put him back on a 40-man roster. The 32-year-old right-hander has pitched well this season, allowing one earned run in 4.1 innings with Philadelphia and posting a 1.93 ERA and 0.57 WHIP over 14 frames in the minors. He'll likely take on a middle-relief role with the White Sox but could earn high-leverage opportunities if his performance holds.

Added to roster The Phillies selected Richards' contract from Triple-A Lehigh Valley on Thursday.

Impact Richards has been on a roll at Lehigh Valley, having collected a 1.93 ERA and 26:3 K:BB over his first 14 innings. The veteran righty is capable of handling multiple innings and is candidate for long relief work in the second game of Thursday's doubleheader versus the Giants.

Moved to minor-league camp The Phillies reassigned Richards to minor-league camp Saturday.

Impact Richards inked a minor-league contract with the Phillies in December but wasn't able to crack the Opening Day roster after posting a 3.38 ERA and 1.25 WHIP across eight innings in eight Grapefruit League games. He'll likely open the season in Triple-A but would be a candidate for a major-league call-up if the Phillies need an extra arm out of the bullpen.
