Impact Swaggerty began the season serving exclusively as the designated hitter as he continued to recover from shoulder surgery. However, his ability to play in the outfield is a significant development, as it clears his path for a promotion to Pittsburgh when the team deems he's ready. On the other hand, Swaggerty hasn't been particularly effective at the plate to this point, as he's hit just .231/.318/.333 while striking out at a 25 percent clip across 44 plate appearances.

It's unclear if the Pirates plan to have Swaggerty open the season on the injured list at Triple-A Indianapolis, or if he'll be able to play DH regularly while he advances through his throwing program and gradually settles back into a full-time role in the outfield.

Impact Swaggerty underwent surgery on his right shoulder last June, but it's the other shoulder that prevented him from getting into Grapefruit League games before he was optioned. While he's been cleared to hit, the continued soreness has delayed his throwing progression. He's uncertain to be ready to play when the Triple-A season begins in April.

Impact Swaggerty, who underwent surgery on his right shoulder last June, didn't appear in any Grapefruit League games prior to his demotion. He appears to still be in recovery mode from surgery, so his availability for the start of the Triple-A season may be in question. The 24-year-old boasts top-notch speed and could get a look in the big-league outfield later in 2022, but he'll first have to prove he's healthy at Triple-A.
