Begins rehab assignment Bazzana (oblique) started at second base and went 0-for-2 for the Guardians' entry in the Arizona Complex League on Saturday.

Impact Bazzana began the rehab process from an oblique injury suffered in mid-May. MLB.com is estimating a late July return for the first overall draft pick in 2024. Prior to the injury, the 22-year-old Bazzana posted a .252/.362/.433 line with four home runs, 17 RBI, eight steals and 29 runs across 33 games.

Beginning rehab stint in ACL The Guardians have assigned Bazzana (oblique) to the Arizona Complex League to begin a rehab assignment, per SI.com.

Impact Bazzana suffered a right oblique strain in mid-May and hasn't played since then. He resumed baseball activities in late June and has now been deemed able to return to game action. Bazzana will presumably head back to Double-A Akron -- with whom he posted a .795 OPS across 33 games before getting hurt -- when he's completed the rehab assignment.

Impact Bazzana's activities include throwing, running and swinging a bat. The first overall pick in 2024 is still "a few weks away" from playing games, per Guardians team president Chris Antonetti. At the time of his injury and placement on the 7-day injured list May 21, the club estimated an eight-to-10 week timeframe for return. Given Antonetti's comments, the upper end of that range is still possible.

Impact Bazzana suffered the injury on a swing during a game with Double-A Akron on May 14. The No. 1 overall pick in the 2024 First-Year Player Draft, Bazzana has slashed .252/.362/.433 with four home runs and eight stolen bases over 33 contests with Akron this season. The injury won't help Bazzana's chances of reaching the majors later this season.
