Contract officially selected The Rockies selected Rumfield's contract from Triple-A Albuquerque on Wednesday.
Impact Manager Warren Schaeffer announced Sunday that Rumfield made Colorado's Opening Day roster, and the first baseman has now officially been added to the big-league club. The 25-year-old is now on the cusp of his MLB debut and is expected to see regular action at first base after posting a .913 OPS with five homers in 23 spring training games. He spent last season at the Triple-A level with the Yankees, where he had a .285/.378/.447 slash line in 138 contests.

Clinches Opening Day roster spot Manager Warren Schaeffer said Sunday that Rumfield has secured a spot on the Rockies' Opening Day roster, Thomas Harding of MLB.com reports.
Impact Rumfield had been attending camp as a non-roster invitee but will wind up breaking camp with the big club after slashing .286/.368/.531 with four home runs and one stolen base across his 57 plate appearances in Cactus League play. The Rockies will officially add Rumfield to the active roster shortly before Friday's season opener in Miami. Though Schaeffer didn't specifically outline what Rumfield's role will look like, the 25-year-old should be in line for regular starts at first base to begin the season, at least against right-handed pitching. The right-handed-hitting Kyle Karros could be a candidate to spell the left-handed-hitting Rumfield when the Rockies face southpaws.
MARCH 22 • ROTOWIRE
Impressing new club Rumfield is making a case to be the primary first baseman for the Rockies to begin the season, Stephen Harding of MLB.com reports.
Impact Rumfield was very productive in the minor leagues while working his way through the Yankees' minor-league system, but he was ultimately blocked and never got a chance to reach the majors. His outlook changed when he was traded to the Rockies in late January, and he has taken advantage early in spring, slugging three home runs across 16 at-bats while striking out only once. Harding currently projects Rumfield to start at first base against right-handed pitching, with Blaine Crim a potential complement to step into the lineup against lefties.
MARCH 3 • ROTOWIRE
In mix for first base job Rumfield will have a chance to win a roster spot at first base this spring, Patrick Saunders of the Denver Post reports.
Impact The Rockies acquired Rumfield in an unheralded trade in late January, but he'll have the chance to immediately contribute for his new club. Colorado has competition across most of its infield this spring, but manager Warren Schaeffer said that the starting role at first base is "wide open." Rumfield was previously blocked in the Yankees organization, but he posted a 121 wRC+ across 587 plate appearances at Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre in 2025. He also won a Gold Glove with Double-A Somerset in 2023, so his glove could also help his case for a roster spot.
FEBRUARY 20 • ROTOWIRE
Shipped to Colorado The Rockies acquired Rumfield from the Yankees on Wednesday in exchange for Angel Chivilli, Jack Curry of YES Network reports.
Impact Rumfield has been a quality performer the last two seasons in the minors, finishing the 2025 campaign with a .285/.378/.447 batting line, 16 home runs and a 70:108 BB:K over 138 games with Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre. He appeared unlikely to get much of an opportunity with the Yankees, at least not in 2026, but in Colorado, Rumfield could compete for the Opening Day first baseman job. Rumfield is not currently on the 40-man roster.
JANUARY 28 • ROTOWIRE
On fire at Triple-A Rumfield is slashing .370/.450/.575 with five home runs, an 11.4 percent walk rate and a 12.8 percent strikeout rate in his last 32 games for Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre.
Impact A 25-year-old lefty-hitting first baseman, Rumfield doesn't have a clear path to playing time in the majors, but he's doing everything he can to make noise in his second season at Triple-A. Rumfield has the hit tool to profile at the bottom of the defensive spectrum, but he may not have the power, as he has a career .443 slugging percentage and has a .189 ISO this season while being an old-for-the-level first baseman.
