Slated for another elbow surgery
Antone will undergo surgery Friday to repair a torn tendon and partially torn ligament in his right elbow, Gordon Wittenmyer of The Cincinnati Enquirer reports.
Impact
Antone has already had Tommy John surgery twice, with the second one occurring in 2021. He had numerous setbacks after the latter operation and has made just nine appearances at the major-league level since 2022. Now Antone is facing another season-ending surgery.

Leaves with apparent injury
Antone was removed from Sunday's game against the Mets with an apparent elbow injury, Gordon Wittenmyer of The Cincinnati Enquirer reports.
Impact
The right-hander entered for the sixth inning but threw just one pitch before departing with the injury. It's a potentially ominous development for Antone, who finished last season on the injured list with elbow tendinitis after spending most of the year recovering from Tommy John surgery.

Not expected back this season
Antone (elbow) is not expected to return this season, even in the playoffs, Charlie Goldsmith of The Cincinnati Enquirer reports.
Impact
Manager David Bell did technically leave the door open by calling Antone's chances of a return "remote," but the writing seems to be on the wall for the righty. Antone returned from his second career Tommy John surgery at the start of September but made just five appearances before being shut down with elbow tendinitis.

MRI reveals tendonitis
Antone has tendonitis in his throwing elbow, MLB.com reports.
Impact
Antone underwent an MRI on Thursday that confirmed the discomfort that forced him to the 15-day injured list was a bout of tendonitis, a diagnosis that manager David Bell said was "about as good as you can get." The reliever will get treatment and could return before the end of the regular season.

Expects to return this season
Antone (elbow) said Thursday that he expects to return this year, Gordon Wittenmyer of the Cincinnati Enquirer reports.
Impact
Antone landed on the 15-day injured list Thursday morning due to soreness in his right elbow, which has twice required Tommy John surgery. He was sent for an MRI and the results are not yet available, but the 29-year-old reliever but told reporters that "it's nothing catastrophic" and "just a flareup." Antone will be first eligible for activation Sept. 29, just a few days before the end of the regular season.

Lands back on IL
Antone was placed on the 15-day injured list Thursday with right elbow discomfort, Gordon Wittenmyer of The Cincinnati Enquirer reports.
Impact
Antone had to exit Wednesday's appearance against the Tigers with soreness in his pitching elbow. The reliever downplayed the injury, but there has to be some level of concern considering he's had Tommy John surgery twice. It's unlikely we'll see Antone again this season.

Dealing with elbow injury
Antone left Wednesday's game against the Tigers due to right elbow discomfort, Gordon Wittenmyer of The Cincinnati Enquirer reports.
Impact
After recently making his way back from the second Tommy John surgery of his career, Antone is reportedly once again having troubles with his elbow. The Reds will likely run some tests to determine if there is any structural damage in Antone's elbow, but given Antone's injury history, the team might decide to play it safe and put him on the shelf for the year.

Reinstated from IL
The Reds reinstated Antone (elbow) from the 60-day injured list Friday, Mark Sheldon of MLB.com reports.
Impact
Antone has been out since 2021 after undergoing Tommy John surgery, but he'll now return to the Reds' bullpen in time for their playoff push. The 29-year-old righty made 12 rehab appearances with Triple-A Louisville, putting up a 3.00 ERA and 1.42 WHIP across 12 innings. He could potentially work his way into high-leverage situations down the line, but Cincinnati will likely limit him to middle relief after being out for so long.

Rehab extended
Antone (elbow) agreed Sunday to extend his rehab assignment an additional 10 days, Charlie Goldsmith of The Cincinnati Enquirer reports.
Impact
After opening his rehab assignment July 25, Antone was nearing the end of his 30-day rehab window, but MLB rules will allow him to extend the assignment because he's working his way back from August 2021 Tommy John surgery. Antone was initially expected to be fully cleared for spring training, but those plans were thwarted when he suffered a right flexor strain while rehabbing over the winter. He appears to have steered clear of any further setbacks since he started throwing again in April, and he's turned in respectable results thus far during his rehab assignment. In seven appearances at Triple-A Louisville, Antone has given up four earned runs on nine hits and two walks while striking out seven over 7.1 innings.

Rehab outing scratched
Antone (elbow) had a scheduled rehab appearance scratched Aug. 11, MLB.com reports.
Impact
Cincinnati manager David Bell said there were things going on in the game and it wasn't an ideal situation for Antone, who has been working his way back from Tommy John surgery. Bell added that the pitcher "didn't feel great." Antone's next scheduled appearance is Aug. 15. The Reds were hoping for the reliever to return Aug. 19, and it's not known if being scratched alters the timeline.

Moving rehab to Triple-A
Antone (elbow) is expected to pitch for Triple-A Louisville on Tuesday, C. Trent Rosecrans of The Athletic reports.
Impact
After one more outing in the Arizona Complex League on Friday, Antone will move up the ladder as he continues to ramp up in preparation for a return to the Reds' bullpen. The right-hander hasn't pitched in the majors in nearly two years. He was showing real promise in relief prior to undergoing Tommy John surgery, but given the setbacks and long layoff, he has to be considered a wild card at this stage.

Begins rehab assignment
Antone (elbow) struck one over a scoreless inning for the Reds' affiliate in the Arizona Complex League on Tuesday, MLB.com reports.
Impact
Antone is working his way back from a second Tommy John surgery and recently had a setback with a sore right shoulder. Cincinnati manager David Bell received good reports on the outing and said, if all goes well, Antone is projected to rejoin the Reds bullpen by Aug. 19.

Cleared for rehab assignment
Antone (elbow) will begin a rehab assignment July 25, Charlie Goldsmith of The Cincinnati Enquirer reports.
Impact
It's not clear what affiliate he'll be assigned to or how many rehab appearances he might need, but it figures to be a good number considering how much time he's missed. Antone hasn't pitched anywhere since 2021 following Tommy John surgery and then a flexor strain.

Throwing again in Arizona
Antone (elbow) started a throwing program at the Reds' spring facility in Arizona earlier this month and resumed pitching off a mound last week, C. Trent Rosecrans of The Athletic...
Impact
According to Rosecrans, if Antone remains free of setbacks while building up over the course of multiple bullpen sessions, he'll be cleared to face hitters in live batting practice beginning July 8. After that, Antone will be targeting July 19 as the starting date for his rehab assignment, and he'll most likely stay in the minors for close to the full length of the 30-day window as he aims to regain both velocity and command coming off his August 2021 Tommy John surgery. Antone had been expected to be fully healthy for spring training, but he suffered a flexor strain in the same elbow over the offseason to further delay his return to the Cincinnati bullpen. He now appears poised to make his 2023 debut at some point in August.
