Claimed by Dodgers The Dodgers claimed Trammell off waivers from the Mariners on Tuesday, Robert Murray of FanSided.com reports.

Impact Trammell had been designated for assignment by Seattle after failing to make the Opening Day roster. The former top prospect is out of options, so the Dodgers will need to clear space for him on their 26-man and 40-man rosters. There wouldn't appear to be a path to much playing time for Trammell, although Jason Heyward (back) is banged up. The 26-year-old has hit just .168/.270/.368 with a 37 percent strikeout rate over parts of three big-league seasons.

Knocks first spring homer Trammell went 1-for-3 with a two-run home run in a Cactus League tie with the Brewers on Friday.

Impact The 26-year-old outfielder's second-inning homer with Luis Urias aboard put the first runs of the day on the board and served as his first round-tripper of spring. Trammell also pushed his Cactus League average and OPS to .276 and .865, respectively, but he whether he makes the cut for the Opening Day roster with Mitch Haniger, Julio Rodriguez and Luke Raley healthy across the outfield, and several other players versatile enough to spell them also available, remains to be seen.

Impact After going 0-for-4 with a pair of strikeout in his first two Cactus League games, Trammell broke out for a highly productive afternoon. The 26-year-old prospect has hit well at Triple-A Tacoma but struggled throughout his time in the majors over his last three seasons, producing just a .168 average, .639 OPS and 37.0 percent strikeout rate across the 351 career plate appearances he's logged against big-league arms. The solid numbers strike a welcome contrast from Trammell's big-league stints this season, however, a sample where he's posted a .130 average, .612 OPS and 39.3 percent strikeout rate over 22 games. If Trammell continues to hit well on the farm, a return to the big-league club when rosters expand Sept. 1 could be in play.
