Zack Gelof - Goes yard again Wednesday Gelof went 2-for-4 with a solo home run and a second run scored in Wednesday's 8-4 loss to the Rays.

Impact The 26-year-old infielder got hold of an eighth-inning sinker from Michael Grove and drove it over the left-field fence at Sutter Health Park. It was Gelof's 13th homer of the year, and his second in three games since coming off the IL after recovering from a knee injury that had sidelined him since July 9. It's been a tough year for the A's, but Gelof has put together a breakout campaign when he's been healthy, slashing .280/.331/.502 in 70 contests with eight steals, 32 RBI and 46 runs.

Jack Perkins - Routed by Rays Perkins (2-9) took the loss Wednesday, surrendering seven runs (six earned) on 12 hits and a walk over five innings as the A's fell 8-4 to the Rays. He struck out two.

Impact A four-run fourth inning, highlighted by a three-run blast from Liam Hicks, put the game out of reach for the A's. Parkins has been tagged for five or more earned runs in three straight starts, and since the beginning of July he's been saddled with a horrific 9.39 ERA, 1.40 WHIP and 32:15 K:BB in 30.2 innings while serving up 10 long balls. With the A's out of the playoff hunt, however, there's little incentive to replace the 26-year-old righty in the rotation, and instead he'll likely be allowed to try and work things out at the big-league level. Perkins is scheduled to make his next start on the road early next week in Kansas City.

Liam Hicks - Sparks offense in Wednesday's win Hicks went 3-for-5 with a double and a three-run home run in Wednesday's 8-4 win over the A's.

Impact Hicks' fourth-inning shot off Jack Perkins broke open what had been a close contest, and it gave the former Marlin his second homer in eight games as a member of the Rays. Since coming over to the AL, Hicks has gone 8-for-26 (.308) with three doubles, three runs, nine RBI and an impressive 4:1 BB:K.

Drew Rasmussen - Collects 12th win Rasmussen (12-5) picked up the win in Wednesday's 8-4 victory over the A's, allowing two runs on four hits and a walk over five innings. He struck out three.

Impact A two-run third inning by the home side put the only blemish on Rasmussen's line and snapped his scoreless streak at 22.2 innings, and the right-hander left the mound after 84 pitches (57 strikes) with his team comfortably ahead. Rasmussen has reeled off five straight wins since the All-Star break, posting a 1.20 ERA, 0.80 WHIP and 35:6 K:BB over 30 innings during that stretch. He'll look to stay locked in for his next outing, which is set to come at home early next week against the Blue Jays.
