Matt Wisler - Serving as opener Thursday Wisler will serve as the opener during Thursday's game against the Blue Jays, Marc Topkin of the Tampa Bay Times reports.
Impact Although Jeffrey Springs initially lined up to start Thursday's matchup, the Rays will choose to use Wisler as an opener followed by a bulk reliever. Over 31 appearances (three starts) this year, Wisler has posted a 2.83 ERA and 1.14 WHIP in 35 innings.

Harold Ramírez - Scores run, swipes bag Ramirez went 2-for-4 with a run scored and a stolen base Wednesday against the Brewers.
Impact Ramirez reached base on a one-out single in the fourth inning and proceeded to steal second -- his third of the season -- before coming around to score. He's started eight of 12 games since June 14, though Ramirez's path to playing time is likely to get more difficult with Kevin Kiermaier (hip) expected back in the coming days. To his credit, Ramirez has hit well across the second half of June, maintaining a .378 batting average with one home run, six RBI and two runs scored across his last 14 contests.

Taylor Walls - Drives in two Walls went 1-for-4 with a double and two RBI on Wednesday against the Brewers.
Impact Though it's made the infield more crowded, Walls has managed to stay in the lineup for two of three games since Wander Franco returned from the injured list. Walls delivered on the opportunity Wednesday, smacking a two-RBI double in the fourth inning. He has an ugly .167/.245/.276 line across 212 plate appearances for the season, but Walls has managed to collect at least one hit in five of his last six starts.

Randy Arozarena - Another pair of steals Arozarena went 0-for-2 with two walks, two stolen bases and a run scored Wednesday against the Brewers.
Impact Arozarena has gotten aggressive on the basepaths of late, swiping five bags across his last three starts. He now has 17 stolen bases on the campaign and could surpass his career-high mark of 20 by the All-Star break. While he's been caught six times, Arozarena has also increased his efficiency on the basepaths lately with five straight steals since his last time being caught and is likely to continue to get the green light as a result.

Jalen Beeks - Covers two frames as opener Beeks didn't factor in the decision after allowing one run on three hits over two innings during Wednesday's 5-3 loss to the Brewers. He had four strikeouts and zero walks.
Impact The 29-year-old delivered a scoreless first inning but returned for a second frame and gave up a run on two hits and a hit-by-pitch. It was Beeks' fourth time working as an opener this season, and he's given up three runs over 7.2 frames in that role. Overall he has a 2.70 ERA, 1.08 WHIP and 41:11 K:BB across 33.1 innings.

Impact Thompson allowed a walk and had two strikeouts over two scoreless innings during Wednesday's 5-3 loss to the Brewers, but he won't be available to face the Blue Jays on the road since he's apparently unvaccinated. The 30-year-old will be able to rejoin the team ahead of Monday's game at Boston.

Impact Raley didn't allow a hit over two scoreless innings during Tuesday's loss to Milwaukee, and he won't be able to travel with the team to Toronto since he's apparently unvaccinated. The 34-year-old has four saves and seven holds with a 2.42 ERA this season, so his absence will be significant for the Tampa Bay bullpen. The Rays have five relievers with at least two saves this season, with Colin Poche and Jason Adam set to be the top options for the five-game set versus the Blue Jays.

Curtis Mead - Moved up to Triple-A The Rays promoted Mead from Double-A Montgomery to Triple-A Durham on Tuesday, Marc Topkin of the Tampa Bay Times reports.
Impact The Australian-born Mead went 1-for-4 in his Durham debut Tuesday after receiving the promotion. A 21-year-old corner infielder, Mead has followed up a breakout 2021 campaign in the minors by slashing .305/.394/.548 with 31 extra-base hits and six stolen bases across 246 plate appearances at Montgomery.

Jeffrey Springs - Won't start, could work out of 'pen Springs won't start Wednesday's series finale with the Brewers, as lefty Jalen Beeks is listed as the Rays' opening pitcher in what could be a bullpen day, Bally Sports Sun reports...
Impact Though Springs is available to pitch on his standard four days' rest, the Rays have opted to go a different route Wednesday. Springs could still be deployed as a bulk reliever behind Beeks, who hasn't covered more than 2.1 innings in any of his 19 appearances on the season and likely won't be asked to work deep into Wednesday's contest. If Springs isn't used Wednesday, Tampa Bay would likely plan on having him make a start at some point during their four-game series in Toronto that begins Thursday.
2 DAYS AGO • ROTOWIRE
Randy Arozarena - Swipes two bags Arozarena went 2-for-4 with an RBI and two stolen bases Tuesday against the Brewers.
Impact Arozarena reached base on a pair of singles and stole second base on each occasion. He now has 15 stolen bases for the season and has swiped a bag in each of his last two starts. Arozarena has also chipped in seven home runs while maintaining a .258 average to provide a well-rounded stat line across 71 games on the campaign.
2 DAYS AGO • ROTOWIRE
Jalen Beeks - Gets starting nod Wednesday Beeks is scheduled to serve as the Rays' opening pitcher for Wednesday's game against the Brewers, Bally Sports Sun reports.
Impact Beeks is pitching on three days' rest and hasn't tossed more than 2.1 innings or 43 pitches in any of his 19 appearances this season, so he won't be in line for a traditional start. Wednesday had been Jeffrey Springs' day to pitch, so he'll likely be the top candidate to serve as a bulk reliever behind Beeks, if the Rays decide to go that route.
2 DAYS AGO • ROTOWIRE
Brett Phillips - On bench against lefty Phillips is out of the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Brewers, Marc Topkin of the Tampa Bay Times reports.
Impact With southpaw Eric Lauer on the hill for Milwaukee, the lefty-hitting Phillips will take a seat after starting in three of the past four games. Phillips has produced only four hits in 51 at-bats (.078 average) in June and could be a prime candidate to lose out on a playing time if Kevin Kiermiaer (hip) returns from the injured list this weekend.
2 DAYS AGO • ROTOWIRE
Josh Lowe - Hits bench Wednesday Lowe is out of the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Brewers, Marc Topkin of the Tampa Bay Times reports.
Impact The rookie will take a seat for the first time since being called up from Triple-A Durham on June 20. While starting in each of the past seven games, Lowe went 5-for-28 with a double, a stolen base, three runs and an RBI while striking out 12 times. Top center fielder Kevin Kiermaier (hip) is expected to return from the 10-day injured list this weekend, and Lowe's lack of production in a full-time role thus far could put him in danger of losing out on steady at-bats.

Ji-Man Choi - Ready to start Wednesday Choi (ankle) will start at first base and bat sixth in Wednesday's game against the Brewers, Marc Topkin of the Tampa Bay Times reports.
Impact Choi missed only game on account of left ankle pain, which he experienced while running the bases in Sunday's 4-2 win over the Pirates. Monday's team off day along with his absence from the lineup for Tuesday's loss to Milwaukee appears to have provided Choi with enough time to move past the injury. The Rays' decision to deploy Choi at first base rather than designated hitter suggests the ankle issue won't compromise him while moving laterally in the field.
